It is really sad to see EPG has planned to scrap off school fees from 2008, and also the the timing of the announcement is not right for the bulk of the parents. As Matthew Arek stated in his statement, "...parents will have to start working to raise school fees in the coming holidays...." to me is a joke. Matthew, you must realise your regular fee paying student is the son or daughter of a regular villager, not a REGULAR SALARY/WAGE EARNER like youself or your EPG counterparts, and realistically a villager WILL NOT COME UP WITH A BASIC SCHOOL FEE AT THE CURRENT LEVEL IN 2 to to 3 MONTHS!.
And next, what do you know about Planning all of you working in EPG, or anywhere else in PNG for that matter? Announcing news like this in the media in a very short time frame IS A BOMBSHELL DROPPED IN FRONT OF PARENTS (you die or live), and Engan elites like myself feel so embarrassed to realise there is so much heartlessness and arrogance shown by our leaders and wonder what has happened to the world. And it does not reflect any good governance and planning at all, if there is any. Planning properly the resources you have at hand, which includes your future leaders, the students, and not just the money you greeedily wait upon for every opportunity to tap into from all possible sources and FILL YOUYR BELLIES AND PURSES before it goes out into the public ('the leaking tap' analoque) reflects EXTREMELY POOR LEADERSHIP.
Why not reflect and think of yourselves in your own parents' shoes not long ago????? If you were born and educated in the colonial era, you wouldn't understand because everything was given to you, but the younger generation of parents like myself do understand what simple village people are feeling at this time.
Just sharing my thoughts of frustration on ongoing issues.
I am an Engan Wanaku living Overseas but so much in love with Enga it breaks my heart every time Enga is mentioned negatively!. Come on Enga, we can do better than this for all the GOD GIVEN TALENTS WE HAVE!!!!!!!!
