Freddie,

Kaim, I too am touched by this story after having gone through a similar situation myself. My daugther died from a cyst in her brain in 2004. She was operated on by the only PNG neurosurgeon in POMGH but the cyst wasn't removed properly so we lost the battle. Brain surgeries are very complicated so for patients to have better chances of survival, they need to get specialist treatment outside of the country. In that token I would like to contribute K500.00 to help out this man save his son's life.

Are you still interested in contributing as a group or should we contact the persons listed on the news paper article. Speaking from experience if this is a geniune case, the person whose account number mentioned would have spent more already. I suppose the only way to confirm this case would be to contact the POMGH or PIH. Could anyone with the numbers for these two hospitals help us out with this?

Thanks Kaim Paeo,

I am very interested in helping as suggested earlier. I would like to find out exactly how we can disseminate this money to them. Rather than paying straight into the account # enlisted in the article, I am trying to find out if we can pay PNG RedCross as suggested by Faraway and specifically mention this is a donation for the young boy's medical costs.

Donating seperately is equally as good as donating as a group. But let me find out first.

thanks again
Freddie

An update here...

I have attempted to make several calls to Port Moresby. I made calls to Pacific International Hospital (i.e. ph: 675-323-4400: spoke to Sr. Rose @ the General Ward) and Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency with Dr. Wemin's direct line (ph: 675-324-8239) and here's an update on my calls so far.

Pacific International Hospital
They have no records of the said patient i.e. Kaman Gama (the boy's name) or the father's i.e. Gepa Gama. According to Sr. Rose, there is no record in the General wards or ther other wards. And unfortunately she cannot access records from the last brain scans in the radiology department. The records are inaccessible right now (Saturday 5pm Nov 2007) I will have to call back on Monday to check or follow up to get some reliable updates.

PMGH
I called the hospital and couldn't get any help for any records available within the wards so I was directed to Emergency where I communicated with Dr. Wemin. According to her (Dr. Wemin) there are no records in hand and readily available so I was asked to call back within 2 hours from now. Its Saturday 5:30pm in POM now. She might be able to get some records which she'll go through to identify the patient. The last she recalls was that there was a young boy who was brought in for brain disease but she cannot confirm right off the bat (immediately) hence no concrete info.
I will call her back to see if we can get an update.

To Paeo/Faraway and those who are reading you can check again here later. Hopefully this is not some faked report that came on Post Courier. Nevertheless, I will confirm this with substantial and concrete info, whichever the case be.

I have left the numbers to those hospitals up there in the top so you all can take a chance to call for yyourselves to confirm also.

thanks
Freddie

To Kaim Freddie

I would also like to make a contribution. You are doing a great job taking an initiative to follow up with this case. I must say that I am motivated by your enterprise. You and Paeo are commendable Engans and Papua New Guineans! I will await for further details from you. I take it now that Freddie is personally taking a leading role in this project on behalf of us Engans and Papua New Guineans who would like to contribute towards this worthy cause. [I await for further information from you.]

To Kaim Paeo:

My heart and prayers have always been with you and Dilis. And I thank God you are blessed today with more beautiful children after that painful ordeal in 2004!

Freddie,
Maybe a call to the Post Courier news room might give us with some more information. I will try and find this out and let you all know.

Steve,
Thankyou for your thoughts, we have come over it now and have surely been blessed with a replacement. We don't want some one else to loss a loved one if it is something that we can help with.

A final follow up with Port Moresby General Hospital after my 2 hours wait got me no records under the boy's name.

According to Dr. Wemin and one of her Clerk's who was assisting; found no available records under the name Kaman Gama. I was told these are the records with the Emergency Ward patient registrants and other related wards only. They may have come and gone with just a consultation service only. In that case I'd have to call back on Monday to talk to the PMGH CEO. I was provided with the following number to reaching the CEO directly. Ph: 675-324-8212 OR 675-324-8246.

With that I think we'll have to wait another day or so perhaps before we can get any substantial information verifying a patient under the said name. This goes for both PIH and PMGH, as reported in the Post Courier on Thursday.

If calls by Monday do not reveal any concrete information about the attendance and registration of a patient under the said name, then I believe the Post Courier reporters have not done their homework well enough before going public, and also a possibility that this article as reported may have been a money scammer's job through a very deceiving and weak entry for the public (genuine donors) to fall prey to such.

Can someone in POM or elsewhere help me to confirm my findings are true to the fact as posted here? I have purposely left phone numbers here so you all can call and confirm also.

Freddie
