Well said 61 and Engan Lenge.
However, I would like to frankly stress likely reasons, though may sound political, that I thing might add values to the cancellation of the policy. These reasoning are based on experiences and the scope of argument will be on University Scenarios.
1. The university students are the most smart arses around virtually talking 'empty dumpty bigs". Since the years I have attended university, only 30% to 45% appreciated such an effort put in by the EPG. The others saw as a windfall to have plenty beer. Hope everyone agrees on this! Most said, "em no money blo em...”well, that might literally sound substantial, but in practical it is not. Only people with guts can make things happen.
2. Graduates are sponsoring tribesman with weapons (rifles) in tribal conflicts, either directly or indirectly. And us graduates are the most critics of the government of the day, especially on its weaknesses without contributing effectively by suggesting constructive and well structured ideas and make it work through. If one cannot get through to put his ideas into reality, I guess you have contacts with the political cronies to push forward such. It will only be proper for EPG to continue funding/implementing the policy only if graduates and students don't become harsh critics.
3. Not all university students are engan students benefiting from this policy. There are some other Tom Dick and Harries names included. What do you want? Wrong blo mipla yet. The excess funds are not acquainted properly. I know, I was exchanging punches with a club president and his treasurer when juniors from my village and electorates' names were removed and replaced by ghosts names. I tell you, i lodged a complain and the following year, the amount was less.
4. 95% of the Students become lazy and roam the streets of Wabag town, hagen town, Pogera, POM and Lae literally doing nothing during there vacation. They supposed to go back and help their parents do the damn dirty jobs. They can't go home and toil the land when they know that EPG is paying for the fee!
On this note, I would suggest and have suggested on many oaccasions through my letters in the media using pen names that a Fully Subsidized Education Policy or HR policy is not needed for the betterment of enga. It should be a 50 - 50 responsibility for the gov't and the parents and kids ourself. A top 5 or 10 students full scholarship is also a great idea suggested by Engan Lenge.
I agree with Ipatas' statement the "parents are becoming Lazy". I don't need to explain, you have to go home and hear and see what is happening back home. But a correction on his wordings, it should be "OUR" children and not "YOUR" children. This contradicts his vision of the HR policy.
We know that no major/impact economical projects have been established were the people can actively participate to generate enough income earnings. If he was serious with his HR policy, he should have looked at bringing back graduates into the province through innovative brainstorming establishment of vital economic projects. Sadly, this essential catalyst to development of ENGA as been overlooked or neglected.
Anyway, thanks Governor, this will open the eyes of the critics and lazy people to think twice as hard as to look for avenues to earn their education. Now, I predict that critics rate at universities will increase to 98% without genuine reasoning and will make all kinds of assumptions and eventually will attack him on his personal life through media.
Sometimes its good to sit back and review then to jump on a running trailer!
