Fellow Engans,

This could be a reptition but please allow me to renew the call to combat tribal fights in Enga. The recent burning down of the Pina vocational school, the catholic church, and the lutheran international school vacating again is ringing a wake up call for all engan elites.

Firstly may I humbly suggest that we remove our personal prideful cap and ask us to think like an engan who is concern of enga, and wish to come together with fellow engans to see whether we can make a difference. Ladies and gentlemen, I sincerely respect our individual aspirations but I believe it is timely again that we unite in one language. If God willing, a day will come when we will go our separate ways to fullfil our dreams, but lets sit down and think together now for Enga.

Again, I'm calling for the creation of an Engan 'Thinktank' an Association of Elites. I believe strongly that we will get support from our current MPs and church groups, but we need to organise ourselves first. The first agenda is the 'Association working with Prov Govt, NGO and Churches to help tribal groups into peace talks and assist them in normal decent life. I'll stop here first and allow you to throw in thoughts.

Enga Lenge,

A good idea and I agree with you in principle.....but keep the politicians out of this. 2 reasons a) they don't give a rats arse about the tribal fights b) we don't have to do their jobs.

Further, don't be soft on warring tribes.....no sugar diplomacy will work, take some harsh measures. State should confisticate the lands of the tribes. The downside is the innocent woman and childern suffer but.....this will send a message across the province.

Regards

I suggest capital punishment to deter those who instigate tribal fights. Obviously tribal fights end up ultimately in loss of lives. The state should start executing or hanging (whichever method deem appropriate for the crime) those who murder, rape and willfully destroy properties (whether it be private or public property) of others who sweated blood and tears to obtain it legally.

Engan Lenge, in line with your suggestion, I add that the Enga elites should form working committees that look into this matter. They should advocate and lobby the government to actually implement and exercise the capital punishment law that is already in place.

It's about time the state should fight fire with fire. Whichever way you look at it if such tough measures are not in place, tribal fights will continue to exist and it is already a deterence to foreign investment and development initiatives.

It's now or never let's get CAPITAL PUNISHMENT underway.

The issue of tribal fight keeps coming up and many people contributed to the discussion in some treads in this forums some months back.

It was commonly agreed in those treads that Tribal fight needs to be solved by Engans in Enga. Fr Laka indicated he was going to be in Enga around the Christmas period of 2006 and was willing to organise a forum or rally of shots to try and bring people together to discuss possible solutions on tribal fight. I understand it is a big ask but there are people back home who are fed up with tribal fight so will participate in a purposefull gathering aimed towards eradicating this social ill that goes beyond known history. I am a victim of this very dreadful social ill and I am quite interested to take part in some ways towards addressing it but the sad fact is I am living outside of the province and would not contribute meaningfully towards addressing it. I believe it needs concerned Engans living in Enga to get together to fix this problem. I am willing to assist financially if a working committee is setup within Enga.

Tribal fighting in Enga has been a norm to our culture and is to date. It is a sensitive issue. I totally agree with all been said by Enga Lenge. TapuMalo (my tambu lewa), I agree with you too that politicians don’t care about tribal fights but I dispute leaving them out of the picture when solving this sensitive issue concerning our province. Whether they like it or not, I strongly feel that we have to make it their business to take part in this great awareness if of such should arise. Our Honourable MPs should be the ones spearheading the whole awareness followed by our Engan elites and other anti-tribal fight advocates.

Secondly, I think the Tribal Fight Act is too lenient on people who engage themselves in tribal warfare as stated by Mr. Sam Abel (http://www.thenational.com.pg/082307/nation4.htm). The warring tribes can be arrested by police but are innocent until proved guilty. In most cases they are released because there are no witnesses. Thus the Tribal Fight Act should be amended to make it harsher on people who go into tribal warfare. People who engage themselves in Tribal fights one-way or the other, spectators or not but if they are caught within the vicinity of the combat zone should be taken into custody except for women and children. Once apprehended, there should be no bail, no fine and be headed straight to Baisu or whichever appropriate prison camp for like more than 2 or 3 years with hard labour.
