Ultaeng

It's the other way around. Dr Puka Temu has been appointed by the Chief as his deputy. Sam Abal has been allocated the Foreign Affairs Ministry while Polye retained his other ministries together with Works. I don't know about the rest esp. my MP, Philip Kikala.

Watch out for the dailies tomorrow! I fee for Polye and the Highlands NA block! Polye should have done the right thing instead of bowing down to the Chief when the Chief was elected as PM...we let our chance for the big post slip away. The nation was looking upon Polye and the NA Highlands block to make the right move but they let the nation down. I don't think Polye will be the next PM as he claimed on this report (refer to ABC report below).

Somare announces new PNG Cabinet
By Papua New Guinea correspondent Steve Marshall
Posted 4 hours 18 minutes ago

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has announced a new Cabinet to guide the country over the next five years.

In a surprise move, Sir Michael has chosen doctor Puka Temu to be his Deputy Prime Minister ahead of Highlands MP Don Polye.

Mr Poyle was the deputy prime minister until this year's national elections and has been given the works, transport and civil aviation portfolio.

With Sir Michael expected to retire in three years' time, Mr Poyle says he still harbours ambitions of becoming prime minister.

"Look at the numbers I had in the House, I in fact, had the biggest number in my party," he said.

"My chance of becoming prime minister one day are very, very high."

Sam Abal is the country's new Foreign Minister while Dame Carol Kidu was reappointed as Minister for Community Development.

I am disappointed. Really disappointed about the new cabinet. The highlands NA faction have been ridiculed by Somare. I don't know about the others but I think DPM should go to Polye and National Planning to Kikala. Sam Abal is ok.

It is clear that junior somare is being grromed to be PM. A timid person like Temu will just be a 'yes man' to the Somare regime. Somare knows that the highlands NA faction are a threat to his kingdom that's why he is sidelining them.
