Three Engan MPs are tipped to get government ministries as informed in the Post Courier.

1) Don Polye-Kandep MP: Deputy Prime Minister
2) Philip Kikala-Lagaip/Porgera MP: National Planning & Rural Development Ministry
3) Sam Abal-Wabag MP: Inter-Government Relations Minister

New Cabinet named today

PRIME Minister Sir Michael Somare is expected to announce his full Cabinet today with the National Alliance retaining the deputy prime ministership.
But the man tipped to occupy the post, former deputy prime Minister and Kandep MP Don Polye last night said it was the Prime Minister's prerogative on who he chose as his number two. He said he would accept Sir Michael’s decision.
NA president Simon Kaiwi confirmed the second highest post would be retained by the party and given the Highlands branch had returned the second largest number of MPs, Mr Poyle was among the top contenders for the job.
It is understood that the party has unanimously agreed Mr Polye should get the job.
It is a closed camp as far as the new Cabinet makeup goes, but sources have tipped the all-important Finance ministry going to former Opposition Leader and Ialibu Pangia MP Peter O’Neill and Treasury to former Forest Minister and Aitape Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch.
Former soldier and Vanimo Green River MP Belden Namah is tipped for the Forestry job, according to party insiders.
Former National Planning Secretary and Lagaip Porgera MP Philip Kikala is tipped to take on the National Planning ministry with Wabag MP Sam Abal continuing as Inter-Government Relations Minister.
POMIO MP and former Foreign Affairs Minister Paul Tiensten is likely to retain his portfolio and two of his colleague MPs from East New Britain – Dr Allan Marat of Rabaul and Patrick Tammur – are also tipped for ministries.
Leader of People’s Democratic Movement and North Bougainville MP Michael Ogio is expected to be given the public Service Ministry while Bougainville Regional MP Fidelis Semoso is tipped to be the Government Whip and also Minister for Bougainville Affairs.
Angoram MP Arthur Somare is tipped to be the minister responsible for Internal Security and leader of People’s Action Party and Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris is set to retain his Works ministry.
Leader of United Resource Party and Hagen MP William Duma has been acting in three ministries and may be given the Petroleum and Energy Ministry. The deputy leader of the NA party from the Southern region Dr Puka Temu could retain his Land ministry and leader of the Pangu party Andrew Kumbakor is likely to be given a ministry.
However, as Mr Polye said, the prerogative is with Sir Michael.

Ultaeng

It's the other way around. Dr Puka Temu has been appointed by the Chief as his deputy. Sam Abal has been allocated the Foreign Affairs Ministry while Polye retained his other ministries together with Works. I don't know about the rest esp. my MP, Philip Kikala.

Watch out for the dailies tomorrow! I fee for Polye and the Highlands NA block! Polye should have done the right thing instead of bowing down to the Chief when the Chief was elected as PM...we let our chance for the big post slip away. The nation was looking upon Polye and the NA Highlands block to make the right move but they let the nation down. I don't think Polye will be the next PM as he claimed on this report (refer to ABC report below).

Somare announces new PNG Cabinet
By Papua New Guinea correspondent Steve Marshall
Posted 4 hours 18 minutes ago

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has announced a new Cabinet to guide the country over the next five years.

In a surprise move, Sir Michael has chosen doctor Puka Temu to be his Deputy Prime Minister ahead of Highlands MP Don Polye.

Mr Poyle was the deputy prime minister until this year's national elections and has been given the works, transport and civil aviation portfolio.

With Sir Michael expected to retire in three years' time, Mr Poyle says he still harbours ambitions of becoming prime minister.

"Look at the numbers I had in the House, I in fact, had the biggest number in my party," he said.

"My chance of becoming prime minister one day are very, very high."

Sam Abal is the country's new Foreign Minister while Dame Carol Kidu was reappointed as Minister for Community Development.

I am disappointed. Really disappointed about the new cabinet. The highlands NA faction have been ridiculed by Somare. I don't know about the others but I think DPM should go to Polye and National Planning to Kikala. Sam Abal is ok.

It is clear that junior somare is being grromed to be PM. A timid person like Temu will just be a 'yes man' to the Somare regime. Somare knows that the highlands NA faction are a threat to his kingdom that's why he is sidelining them.

All these NA Highlands (esp Engan MPs) are puppets for the Sepiks. The facts are:

1. Don Polye, Miki Kaeok and Pita Iparas are yoyos for Sir Somare
2. Pundari is a yoyo for Iparas (who both become yoyos for Sir Somare)
3. Sam Ambal is a yoyo for Author Somare and Patrick Pruaitch
4. Phillip Kikal is a yoyo for Andrew Kumabkor

You see, we can't do anything so let's be sexed up by Sepiks for the next 5-10 yrs.

yoo-mange is a stupid and that is it.
Bro, yu open your big eye balls wide and see the truth.
The ministers were given out all ready so we can't do anything. The election is also gone and we can't elect some new pong yakans in.
I'm just appealling to you to respect our mps.
whether they become yoyos or soccer balls or rugby balls.
If pong andaks like yu put our mps down, then what kind of a leader do you want? Will God send one for you from heaven?
No. Only these yoyos will be our leader - the decision makers and political heads of our our sweet home enga.
Pls, next time never write as if you are a pamuk breed.

True engans will always protect their leaders.
We will only kick them out during the elections.
Pls, once again...respect our elected leaders because they have been voted in by majority of the engan population.
Yu can show you frustrations when they become yoyos and briefcase carriers but pls do not try to put it out publicly in such places like this.
IT was an engan norm that our leaders we protected at all cost.

thanks for reading and understanding.

yours kaim for the good image of enga.

Moti not on agenda for talks in Aust: Abal

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
FOREIGN Affairs and Immigration Minister Sam Abal said yesterday that he would not bring up the Julian Moti issue with his Australian counterpart Alexander Downer during the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Australia.
“We will be discussing foreign affairs and trade issue of mutual interest. And as far as I am concerned, the Moti issue is a stumbling block to our relationship and it should be left to collect dust.
“It’s up to him (Downer) to raise it or not. There are many more important issues to talk about than Moti,” Mr Abal said at the Jackson airport before departing for Sydney for the 21-nation Apec summit. Mr Abal is scheduled to meet Mr Downer this week.
The Australian government was angered by the escape of Moti to the Solomon Islands last October with the help of PNG officials. Moti is wanted in Australia to answer child sex charges which he says was already dealt with in Vanuatu.
Mr Downer insisted that a report from an inquiry into the saga be made public.
Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare, who was implicated in the report, has refused to release the report, and had ordered his lawyers to go to court to annul the entire inquiry.
Sir Michael flies to Sydney tomorrow for the Apec meeting.
Meanwhile, Mr Abal said he would be pushing for a coalition to deal with logging operations and to promote carbon trading as part of PNG’s contribution towards the campaign against global warming.
“These coalition nations will mostly be made up of developing nations who have rain forests.”
He said he would push for carbon trading which would help villagers make money by preserving their forest.
“Although PNG does not have huge industries that emit huge amounts of greenhouse gases, we must also play our part by not emitting such gases by not burning down our bushes unnecessary.”

61 is right. I have got a copy of the moti report and found that the old man will be screwed.
so he will use our good looking leaeders as shields but again we must not get frustrated and jump to concluion by labeliing them with negative tags.
We must be patient. I believe that I own the future and that I and the other like minded future generations of Enga will deliver PNG from captivity and bring PNG to safety.
Only engans will make the difference in this country.
please,,,,do not cry over spill milk and just be patient until the time comes somare and his tool boys and cargo boys will be history in the politial book of records in PNG.

pls, always maintain the enga standard and stap isis

....just tok Wara..Wara...enga sepik na relax..

yoo-mange,

I agree with you in principal. however the language you use is not warranted to convey your point in this forum.

of course it is obvious that lapun somare has the power. No wonder all these weak politicians flocked to his corner to form the gov't.

If they are real genuine about the plight of the country and its people these Engan members and others who joined the NA coalition should have formed an alternative govt. But then again it's water under the bride now, we cannot cry over spilt milk. what happened, happened.

These prostitute politicians will bend over backwards to carry out somares wishes and whims for fear of being sidelined if they cross the old pukpuk. They would even go to great lengths and troubles to bend and break the law.

An example is the ridiculous Moti affair that has been a cause of concern for all of us. It is very clear that somare is in the wrong. But he will ensure that this report never surfaces. that's why he instructed puppets like Sam Abel to refrain from discussing these issue with Downer despite the fact that Downer will be very interested to do so. Australia has already made its point, it wants the Moti report to be aired and if somare continue to stall, they have no option but to penalise PNG in terms of financial assistance and etc.

In fact PNG will not need Australia's assistance for ever but for the short term it is important that we get those monies until we can be able to stand economically independent on our two feets.

Engan politicians and the others in NA govt will be nothing but somare's puppets until 2012.
