There is no question that the work that you did under the AusAid programe was beneficially, and from all accounts for very little money. There are many individuals like yourself that work "hands on" and do so not for the "love of money". Under what programe where you employed and how much was the orginal contract worth, what was the profit margin to the contractor if there was one?

The AusAid program is big business, big money and the Australian contractors that are awarded these huge contracts are in the business of making a profit.

If you have read any of the Aid Watch reports you will note that most contracts are awarded to Australian Companies. In the period 2002-2004, 19 Australian companies had been awarded AusAid Contracts totalling over 66Million, (hence the name "boomerang Aid), only 2 companies from PNG received contracts totally 12Million.

I do feel that the AusAID should make public, the amount of profit that Australian firms are generating from the aid program, and generally more media reporting on projects when they are completed.

Actually I feel guilty, Katt, because I received my normal wage while away... and yes.. nost of my wage stayed in Australia... paying off my morgage etc.

However, while I was away, the government had to pay an extra nurse to take my place, so it DID cost the government significant amount of money to send me.

Is this boomerang aid? The government was thousands of dollars down in wages and airfares for sending me.

I'm sorry if my comments made you feel guilty, I certainly don't want you to feel that way from comments, as I said above "there are many individuals like yourself that work "hands on" and do so not for the "love of money".

We all need to earn a living and survive in this world, the work you did was beneficial.

My thoughts on "boomerang aid" are to do with the profit margins of these companies that work in PNG, why are so many contracts awarded to overseas companies and why isn't there programs in place to help more PNG companies work towards achieving contracts?

cheers :)
