Check this out! Taken from yesterday's (November 16, 2006) Viewpoint section of the Post Courier: In his campaign speeches of Election 2002, Honorable Karpa Yarkka was bragging about the transformation of Laiagam into a minute scale replica of America if he was elected. Now, I've been to New York and most developed countries of the world, but I have seen no similarities or changes of such. Is cash distribution his notion of development? Stupid, plaaaiiin stupid for an inactive politician after 5 years of procrastination!

Nice try, Yarka, the same campaign tact won't work this time around! Your time's up! The people aren't that stupid!

***********************************************************

I FIND it hard to understand why Mr Karpa Yarkka was paying cash to the people of Laiagam District. The people applauded Mr Yarkka saying it’s our first time to physically touch the Government’s money. If Mr Yarkka was a true leader, this money should have been used to improve the Laiagam Health Centre which is in a state where a healthy person can be infected with prevalent diseases and where patients are in danger of dying. He should be encouraging long term developments like agriculture in the district. The idea behind paying cash is easily interpreted but on the other hand, it only serves as a catalyst to the social problems because people are using the money for the wrong purpose such as buying alcohol, gambling and prostitution. People are being brainwashed in this manner. – Tony Sulupin Unitech

Empty promise

Tony Sulupin’s letter in the Post-Courier, Thursday, November 16 causes disbelief over the handling of budgetary resources by my once admired local MP.
Mr Kappa Yarka, you made election promises to the people promising to transform Laiagam into a model of America and they enthusiastically gave you their votes in due confidence.
Well, after seeing New York and most developed countries of the world for myself, I still do not see any of such changes in comparison to Laiagam’s current status.
Now after five years of procrastination you see fit to dish out cash to the poor unsuspecting citizens. Why not give me some too? Mr Yarka, development has to do with creating incomes through agricultural incentives and promoting a viable industry that can in turn complement people’s demand for local services (for example drugs, medicine, health services).
Do you have such long-term blueprints in place qualifying you to run for a second term?
See you in 2007!

I do believe Yarka (as an educated politician) is equally liable for promoting the stench of corruption prevalent in "vote buying" and "dependency". The people of Laiagam are poor and have no option but to accept such lucrative offers because the politician(s) failed to deliver in the first place...

Yarka should shoulder 50% of the blame for his time wasted in playing petty politics and drinking at the corridors of Waigani, if not ALL!!

American towns took years of sweat and hardwork to get established. Dreams can only be realised when leaders take the step in the right direction to make dreams come true. Dreams can only be dreams when leaders take a walk in the park while the real work is in the fields.

Surely, Laiagam hasnt become a little American Town, i believe you can find little America at Morata, thats where Mr. Yarka spent most of his time, drinking in little American pubs at Morata, taking off his shirt and showing the real Mr. Yarka inside.

If there was an electorate in Morata, i belief he will win the election there, definitely not my vote for the Lagaip Porgera open.

Ehehehe!! Kaim, I could never have imagined that Mr. Yarka was capable of such a thing (though I'd heard rumors he'd been frequently spotted on his escapades to Morata in search of boos and sex)! For a politician to take off his shirt in public and drink loads of beer till daybreak is absolutely incredible!) What a joke he's become! I guess he still thinks he's Alistair in Euro-wonderland. What a pimp!!

He was booed off stage at the biggest cultural festival in Laiagam during August this year. Sources tell me that he has been written off by the general public because his negative publicity exceeds him. Well, Yarka isn't worth talking about anymore!
