You can clip the beak it's not a big deal. It may hurt them for a tiny bit but not for a long time. I would get some blood stop first (incase of bleeding) then use reg toenail clippers and just do a tiny smidge on the end, the part that curves under. Do a tiny bit, that should be enough to put a stop to any pecking the bird may be doing. If your trimming because it's too long this will also help and you can do it on a regular basis!
If you get one of those big tools and are hatching like crazy, then mistakes can be made and you can end up with a bird with no beak. That's if your bigger time and overcroweded. (I had quail and i just trimmed with regular toenail clippers and it worked out fine. Did their toe nails of a few roosters that way too.)
