OK, I got three different situations here.

ONE) A weak embryo will still develop to full turn but it's a bad embryo to start with so the chick will either be deformed or weak, hence the eyes will remain sealed and will not open after hatch. Chick will usually die withing a week.

TWO) Egg was candle too close to time egg was due to hatch. This causes blindness in the chick. Also can be caused by candling too often. The chick can hatch healthy but can not see so it can not find food or water on it's own. It will eventually die if not cared for or provided for artificially or hand feed and watered

THREE) Chicks hatch late. Usually after three days of hatch date. The chick is too weak to hold it's head up or eat. It sleeps and will not fend for it's self. Sometimes this happens if the shell is too thick or if the eggs have been stopped and started thoughout the incubation period. Lengthy power failures etc... Humidity being too low as well as temp will also slow down the developement of the embryo causing complication in the hatch and usually will cause deformaties as well as blindness. Lack of air circulation to the egg can also cause brain damage and blindness in the hatched chick.

Does this sound like anything you can relate to or maybe have a problem with? Let me know! This info was from the Texas A&M University Poultry Science Center. You should go read some of the stuff they have on there Marion. I love that sight. Here is the link so you can check it out. I learn so much from them.. Let me know if any of this info makes since to you and you figure out what caused it. I'd like to learn more!
Here ya go.. LOL forgot to place the link in there!
