Hey Sandy,

Thanks for doing this research. I will definitely go to that website and bookmark it too.

#1 is doubtful, I think, because I was able to get their eyes open with warm water on a cotton ball, but they stayed open for only a short time.

#2 is a definite no because I only candled some eggs very early in the hatch, but that is very good to know.

#3 is the most likely especially with the power outages we experienced. On day 2 we lost power for 3 hours and on days 5 and 6 we lost power 3 or 4 times each for 1/2 hr at a time. I think the eyes are formed on the first day, so it makes sense. The chicks definitely hatched late, they were 2 of the last 3 to hatch late Monday, although their due date was Monday, but we had 2 hatch on Friday, so there's no telling. I know some of my eggs' shells are very thick so that could have cased it too. I have very hard water here and supplement oyster shell because we also get a lot of cracked eggs (the membrane doesn't break, so we can still eat those eggs). We had horrible swings in temperature here. The first week's temp was 100* and the second week was 91-93, so the incubator had a horrible time keeping up. I've learned to turn on 2 light bulbs overnight and turn them off sometime during the morning, so the temp did get too cool the first night of the cooler weather. The incubator is in a room without a/c and gets some shade from outside, but not much. So that's what happened.

Thanks again for all your wonderful research. I'll email you for the turner, thanks a million.

Love ya,
Marion
