Sugar....

don't wait for someone else or for a group or for a scheduled excercise time.....just do something every day. I mean you can do the once a week group thing ALSO, if you want but that won't do it for you, alone. The way i got started was i went plodding out the door with my sneakers on 3X a day for 10 minutes each and walked fast. It was a pain to do it but i just did it. usually no one would go with me. But for 10 minutes i could walk back and forth up and down the short street or even round and round the culdesac or the yard for 10 minutes. Can't leave the house or bad weather?? turn on the radio or CD player and do high knee lifts , jumping jacks, skipping in place, stepping on and off a cheap-o rubbermaid stool, walk or trot up and down the stairs of your house...ANYTHING....for 10 minutes 3X a day. If you like to boogie and jive then you can dance to the music. Do a lot of getting your knees up, your feet kicking and your arms up over your head as much as you can. Clap you hands over your head, touch your opposite elbow to your raised knee and then keep switching sides, kick your feet up....bounce....wiggle your butt!! You don't need much room at all.

Are you standing in line at the check-out counter? stuck in traffic? waiting in a doctor's office? Squeeze and relax your buttox ,muscles as many times as you can and you will be working the largest muscle group in your entire body and getting a very tight toned butt in your "wasted" time. It does seem easiest when standing up...try to pinch your butt cheeks together and then relax, and just keep repeating. How many can you get up to? Want to have killer legs and curvy calves? stand on the bottom stair step and hold the railing, facing the stairs. Place just your toes or the ball of your foot, on the edge of the bottom stair. Keeping your body staright and your knees straight, lower your heels as far as you can and then raise them up as far as you can. Do it slowly, up and down. Start with 12 repititions and try to work up to 20 or 25. Do you know how to do isometric excercises for your pectral muscles? It tones the muscles that support your breasts. Place your hands together, with elbows sticking straight out at the sides. put the heels of your hands together so that your fingers are facing the opposite way from each other. (one set of fingers aims in at your chest and the other set straight out away from you. Now sqeeze the heels of your hands together hard. release. repeat for 12 reps and try to wrok up to 20. then switch your hands so that the one that was facing in is now facing out. You can pretend you are climbing a ladder. Reach up with one arm straight up on the side of your head, bend the knee on the same side of your body as the raised arm so that only the ball of your foot is on the ground. Now switch sides, allowing the previously raised arm to bend at the elbow as you bring it down. keep alternating sides. How long can you go? Do it to music? Squats as a great muscle toner. Hold onto the corner of the wall and just squat and then come up, 10 times? 15? Do it slow. The more you tone and increase muscle in your body the more calories it burns on its own in even just a resting state.

What other things can you find to do on the net, in magazines, etc? Anything that doesn't require you to go out to a class or have a partner, or have good weather, or have some special equipment is going to be something you can do every day and stick with it.

You will not feel like doing it. 80% of the time you will enjoy it while you are in the middle of it, especially if you have some music on you like. You will probably not like it when getting started every day, and want it to be done towards the end. the 10-minute increments helps with this in the beginning. tell yourself you can't eat each meal till you do the 10 minutes. I have found I can't get the 10 minutes in long term but I can get in either two 15 minutes or one half-hour. I have just forced myself. I get very intense and emphatic with my kids when they try to keep me from it or interrupt me. I have been know to yell, "LEAVE ME ALONE TILL I'M DONE" and am at the point where i don't even feel guilty about it, although I did very much at first. Now if they are nudgy, I give them a lecture afterwards about how if they want me alive and around to see them finish growing up they had better support this so I don't die of a heart attack or diabetes or something! That type of lecture has had to be repeated a handful of times over these past 3+ months. i guess just like anything else with kids, you have to repeat it over and over. The impression seems to last about 2 to 3 weeks before I have to give it again! And these are teenagers! If they were little, I would be saying somthing like;" Mommy has to do this to not be so overweight so she won;t get sick. It's really really important like medicine for me."

Don't wait, hun. 3 months from now you could be 25 to 30 lbs less!!!!!!! JUST DO IT! The excerices really motivates you to eat right also....the two work really well together. On days I excercise more, I eat less, and make better choices of what I do eat.

You can do it...start today!

luv and hugs,
Dreemy
