Subject: OKAY, Fic lovers, it's time for a NEW session.
The lovely and talented [and extremely busy] Katlurkin has asked Jade and I to moderate the new session of the BtVS Fanfic Club, and we have accepted. We still have some details to work out, some information to exchange, and some consultations with the PTBs, but Jade and I wanted you all to know that things will get underway soon [and I am hoping this means within a week].
Based on some of the input below, Jade and I have come up with a tentative category list, and we want to find out whether there is interest. A category of fanfic will not go forward unless there are at least 3 members. So here they are:
1. B/A
2. B/S
3. B/X
4. W/T
5. slash
6. Speciality ship of the Month-- Cross over ship
7. Other ship-- B/G and W/X have been done in the past. This month's suggestion -- a Faith pairing
8. non-ship
We didn't have an "other" or "slash" category last session.
So everybody, who is interested? and in which category?

I had thought that was okay... Last session we were allowed to be in two. So as long as it's still cool, then yeah, I'll be in two groups. :)

Actually, I think the category is just for a non-specific Faith 'ship, anything with Faith can be nominated. But I certainly wouldn't mind an F/A fic! *grins* Faith/Angel is my number-one 'ship, with Faith/Wes following closely behind.

its Buffy/Xander for me as well as crossover. and to answer someone's question that crossover meant angel: the series. i suggested that category, and its meant for all crossovers. not only angel.

This will be my first session. Since I'm really only interested in three of the categories, it's just a matter of eliminating one. I notice last session had very few slashers and the B/A group was smaller than the B/S one. So I'll do slash and B/A.

We are low on a couple of ships, and they might not sail....
We need a few more members for:
**** B/X and the slash group-- right now we only have 2 in each of those groups. So, if you know of B/Xers who are into fanfic or secret slash lovers, pass this address along.
Non-ship has only one member, so, if you know individual who don't ship but love quality fanfic, pass this along.
W/T doesn't have any members and it would be sad to have this ship not sail.... So, if you know any Kittens...
There is still lots of time to sign up....

I'm still a little confused. Jade sent me an invitation- but to be honest, I'm such a hard core BAshipper few fics would recieve unbiased reviews... if I join the BA group does that imply I only read BA stories or do I still have to read other ship stories?

You would have to read the majority of the other stories as well as the B/A one. The members of the B/A group are just responsible for selecting the fic that they want to represent them, but everyone from every group is technically supposed to read every story. (Although last session, a couple people didn't review all five stories, me being one of them. *grins ruefully*)

Emcee has an outline to help reviewing, and it's quite alright to say, "I just don't think this is the way the characters would react."
I am a hard core redemptionista, but in reading the past sessions B/A fics, and B/X, I can see why people are passionate about them.

in a story about a ship you do not like. You might like the style of writing, the authors descriptive ability, or the way the characters are portrayed.
The other point it to try and objectively review other stories, on their, interesting-ness, character development and dialogue, instead of the fact that the story is about a ship you don't want.

I thought it went pretty OK. Others described the research presentation with words like "amazing" and "fantastic". And that the group interview with the fulltime faculty was smooth.
I now have an interview with the Dean of Arts and Sciences. That will be rockier, since I haven't finished my dissertation yet. But it is on Vanlentine's Day, so I am hoping he'll be a sweetheart...
