For me - this was one of the better fics put forward.

It had good characterisation, was believable and didn't bash other ships in the telling.

Phoenix Burning: It's AU, but stays true to the Buffyverse. Good characters, well developed. There are
plenty of future fics, but this was most deffinately original. I wish there had been more of a back
story, but nothing was unexplained as far as why the characters were where they were. Any mistakes made
were un-noticed. The plot was well thought out and executed. I would recomend this in a second.

Overall score: Excellent / 93

Phoenix Burning This was a fabulous story, well written and kept me interested through out. I thought the characters were well developed and beleivable. There was action and romance and intrigue in good proportions.

Downside: ,350 years of lonly suffering, turns me off more then is romantic. I'm more of a move on type person, so that annoyed me. Plus, not knowing what happened to willow and not even enough details about it to hint about an story in the future.

First off, I would like to say that B/A never ignited my imagination, and I am always reluctant to read futuristic Buffy stories. There is something about rooting it in the here and now of everyday familiar life that is timely to me.

But my opinions might have been different if I had read this Yahtzee story earlier! Overall, I found this to be the most well-crafted, tightly written, plot-engaging story of this selection [though I have a second favorite]. It has inspired me to read all the fic at that sight, and bookmark others for later reading..

In terms of the premise and its adherence to Buffyverse canon, it is absolutely dead on. I don’t usually like futuristic Buffy but this was very believable. Character actions, motivations, and dialogue demonstrated a good knowledge of the characters. I was also impressed with the respectful handling of all the characters. And even though I would have written the history of Spike differently, yes, I even liked her depiction of Spike. Though he would not have reverted in my universe, this was done believably and enhanced the story. The only thing that I though was not consistent with my conception of Buffy was her not finding out more details of what happened to Dawn, Xander, and Willow-- or at least trying to.

I am a plot girl. Though I do read PwP [porn without plot], I prefer a good story [with lots of good smut]. But story is primary! Here, this story excelled! The evolution of society, the role of the Slayer, the Council’s machinations, Angel’s history... all of this make for a good read. I raced through the story because I was so interested in finding out what happened next. Yahtzee also added to the history of the Buffyverse in positive ways with the characters of the other Slayers. Characters and plot were consistent, and served to further each other. I especially like the Japanese slayer, and how her story added to our overall understanding of this universe.

Since Buffy is known for one-liners, I would also recommend this story for the prize for best one:

“You forget my best friend, you remember my breasts," she answered, rolling her eyes. "An undead man is still a man."

I recommend this story highly.

No matter how many times I read it, this story never ceases to amaze me.

Yahtzee draws me in from the beginning and never once loses my attention. I find myself absolutely captivated by the future world. Her plot is so tight, her world so well thought out, and everything just fits together so well that it feels like I'm living this story rather than reading it. I remember the first time I read it, I was up all night because I'd started it after midnight and I just couldn't stop reading to go to bed.

It has itrigue and betrayal and romance and heroism, all of which are wonderfully done. The plot is deep and strong, and the characters have real substance. They are very well done extensions of the Buffy and Angel we know, and her original characters very well written. I can't even begin to tell you just how much I am in love with and in awe of Sumiko.

The dialogue is wonderful.

Yahtzee wrote this story during the summer hiatus after "The Gift," and it flows quite nicely from the end of season five.

This story has long been the first one I send people who ask for recs to. It far surpasses anything else I've ever read online (except for one or two of Yahtzee's other pieces which vie with it for first place in my affections) and many books that I've liked well enough to buy. I can't imagine ever finding another piece of fanfic so well written, and so I must give it full marks. 100/100

This is a great fic! Angel and Buffy are spot-on, and the dialogue was great. I'm usually not a fan of fics-in-the-future, because it often seems as if the future time is merely a device to eliminate difficult issues that currently exist. That didn't seem to be the case in this story. The only negative I have is that a 24-chapter story is fairly long for this club.
