Subject: Okay Bitches! What are our reading recommendations?
I mostly read the NC17 stuff, so if anyone has any more mellow fics to recommend, I'm all ears. I would recommend a shorter fic by Laure Alexander or NautiBitz. What do you think?

Bitch reporting.... ma capitaine... -- morgain, 19:45:17 07/27/02 Sat (B56-68.DAS.McGill.CA/198.168.182.220)
My beginning recommendations (and they are all complete or self-contained) are:
1. our very own BC&S treacle antlers "Diversion" [R]
http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=764093
2. Both of these are self-contained, but part 2 continues from part 1 and I liked the 2nd part a lot.
Happiness [PG-13] [it is part #1]
http://www.alanna.net/btvs/happiness/index.htm
and
Sweeter than Oranges [NC-17] [it is part #2]
http://www.alanna.net/btvs/sweeterthanoranges.htm
Since we are such a large group, is there someone who could volunteer to be sheepdog to keep us heading in the right direction?

I second the suggestion for something by Nauit Bitz. I was going to recommend "In Heat", but if you want shorter, then maybe something like "Peaches..."
As for the sheep herding - happy to volunteer for this month, if no one wants to do it. What I was thinking is that we could look at drawing up a roster, so that herding is shared, and that no one person gets stuck with admin. Any thoughts?

Good plan Leatix -- Jane, 18:51:09 07/28/02 Sun (la.znet.com/207.167.96.1)
Let's wait until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week when Oz closes the club to further members and then we can have you be in charge of the herding this month and the go in alphabetical order after. Sound fair?
Also, any NautiBitz fic is okay by me, I don't think she has any over 200 pages, so they'll all work. However, there are some underage club members so we really need to pick something not NC17 for the youngsters so we can at least say we tried not to corrupt the minors. Like I said, I don't read anything but NC17, so we need some more PG suggestions for fic. We one smutty, one not so smutty.

Ok - fine with me. I'll wait until everyone is in, and then organise how we go about it.
I have the same problem as you, in that I read mostly NC-17, so I'll troll through my fav authors and see if I can find something to recommend that is PG or R rated.

and thanks for volunteering to be first!
I also agree with Jane about waiting till membership is finalized and using alphabetical order. And there is also so much B/S fanfic, I think it would not be difficult to come up with 2 per month, with one always being PG-13 / R. Good thinking about our underage members, Jane.
I will also volunteer to make sure at least 1 of my monthly recommendations is in this rating.

I'm thinking we need to establish the number of words, on average, on a page. Otherwise, we'll have to cut and paste or print out all of the stories to establish page numbers. All of the suggestions sound great. I'll try and read any of the ones I haven't already next week so I can give an educated opinion.

4,000 words from her latest chapter is about 13 pages in a MS Word document, but that counts spacing. I am also working my way backwards for "Deserving".
She has a couple of new beta readers for Akoshta that are going over it and correcting, so we may want to put this on the list once they have finished. It will do better justice to the story I think. She is a member of this group also...

Just finished reading that... hmm... Liked it, although could have done with a beta reader. Found mistakes popping up all over the place. Plus there are just common spellings of names on the show. Hi,
I am part of the slash group but I am also interested in lurking here if I can't join 2 groups. I would really love it if people could put the link in along with the rating. FF drives me crazy with the #@#$%% popups which I collect like lint if I have to search on an author's name. Ratings would mean that minors would not search on something that could get them in trouble.

Just a small concern here - do all the B/Sers know this board is up? Is Ozzy going to post another note at the BC&S?
I was hoping that we would be getting a few more suggestions by now, is all.
Also this is what I'm proposing for the first month:
Everyone in the group e-mails me their suggestions - both NC-17 and PG/R. I will collate the suggestions and then send out a list to all members and post a copy here to the board, for discussion. I'm aiming to have this done by mid next week, so everyone get your thinking caps on. The top choices will be posted here on 12th August, and put forward as the groups recommendations for the month.
I will also organise the monthly admin roster, alphabetically, which I will also post by 12th August. If anyone has any problems with their allocated month (work, family, exams etc) please let me know and I'll sort something out.
Did I leave anything out?

The Double Spiked at Fan Fiction link is delicious! Also there, but not N/C-17 is a sweet, so far, but it's getting kind of weird, Q & A Series. It's about Spike and Buffy's daughter, Meredith who is like 5 years old and the plot is propelled by her questions to her parents, Xander, Dawn who is now going to college, Giles/Anya who are married with a son and some weird input by Willow. Anyway, give it a look. Also, I'm reading Arizona, also on Fan Fiction and N/C-17. This is a "what if" starting after Season 2, No Angel, no Drusilla, just Buffy (Matt or 5 yeard old son), Spike not chipped and Xander/Willow. Xander lovers beward he's a complete jackass in this and Matt is definitely Season 2's Spike's son. It's kind of interesting.

Links to fic I recommended -- Jane, 19:48:04 07/30/02 Tue (adsl-66-127-185-194.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net/66.127.185.194)
This is mostly for Juno who asked for links to the fic I recommended, but if any one else is interested . . .
Laure Alexander is amazing. She mixes in a ton of slash with her "traditional" smut. Very dark, very violent. Anything by her is great. I highly recommend the series The Erotic Adventures of Spike and Willow and Lily. I think they're too long for our group but a fabulous read. Her stuff has various ratings and pairings but are all clearly noted.
http://www.grapevine.net/~lwilson/warning.html
And NautiBitz is on ff.net but also has her own site at:
http://www.angelfire.com/my/nautibitz/
I enjoy all of NautiBitz fic, but she has compiled some fic in response to a challenge to fill in the blank between Smashed and Wrecked (which one came first?) that is great PWP. I think her fic is all NC17.

Okay guys finally here checking in with my recommendations -- Peaches, 21:27:26 07/30/02 Tue (cache-mtc-ac10.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.79)
sorry last two days have been very busy at work.
I have a few recommendations NC17, PG and R:
First I was going to recommend Kaylorin's Akoshta (sp?) but, I notice above you guys talked about that. Also, I liked Lovers Song and it was PG - so a good one for underaged posters.
Second Treacle Antlers Diversion it is rated R and it has a sequal that is not complete yet. I think Diversion is short enough..having a hard time figuring the whole page/number of words thing out. Also she has one called Season Six Finale - As It Should Be and it is rated G - it is definitely the right length.
Third another author that posts on fanfiction.net Jypzrose she has three I recommend: The Underground and it is NC-17, Heaven Has No Rage - The Lilith Series and it is rated R and Tell Me Why rated PG - this one is very short and would be a good one for underaged posters.
Okay, hope that helps. I mostly read NC-17 but occasionally read R and read PG if it is an author I really like. I am going to go back up now and read all the posts and get the "scoop" on what is going on I just wanted to post and check in first.

Ok people - Oz wants the suggestions by 11 August, so please send me your ideas.
Peaches has responded, and I know what Jane has suggested (as we have v. similar tastes), but I need others. As per the rules, I need the links, rating and the story *must* be complete. I know that rules out some fantastic fics (especially "Double Spiked" - thanks to Chani letting us know), but it makes life easier for everyone.
I'll check the BC&S and see if anyone has posted a message there. If not I'll post a message and encourage people to check in.

I've read thieves, and it's good. I like it, a lot.
To add a recommendation or two of my own, "Make It Better" and "The Canvas Of His Back":
http://www.precious-dreams.org/asn/archive/fanfiction/makeitbetter.txt
(the ending just made me go "aww"...)
http://geocities.com/anniesjennings/canvas.txt
These are all pretty short and sweet. As I like them. I'm all for long stories, but these two nake me feel warm inside. The second being very unlike my tastes, cause I'm not usually fond of non-canon stories.
Oh, and the second one is NC-17. The first one I think is PG-13... I can't be bothered to check again. I know it's not smut, that's for sure.

UPDATE - Please read! -- Leatrix, 17:20:43 08/02/02 Fri (netcache2-acld.auckland.clix.net.nz/203.97.2.243)
Hi
I'm planning on getting all the suggestions into one grouping *tomorrow* night (for me that is Sunday night, as I'm a day ahead of most of you due to the differences between northern and southern hemispheres).
This will give us time to make sure that we have read the stories and make recommendations as to which one(s) we want to forward to the club as a group.
I will need final feedback by 9 August, after which I will see which fic has had the most "votes". I will then post (by 11 Aug) these to Oz as our recommendation for the month. If it comes down the wire as to which story goes forward, I will make the final decision.
So Stormy, YAH and Kaylorin - *please* send me your final suggestions, with ratings and addresses!
Thanks

OMG!!!! Will I even get to go to the loo reading all this fanfic? -- morgain, 09:41:38 08/05/02 Mon (B56-03.DAS.McGill.CA/198.168.182.155)
I'm overwhelmed with the numbers. A lot I've already read. But there is still so much I haven't. Perhaps we could pare it down in the future? Given we are the biggest group, and so much fanfic is B/S, let's not burn ourselves out.
Got to go and read some more...
:-)

I know what you mean.... -- Kaylorin, 11:15:21 08/05/02 Mon (pcp632159pcs.newhvn01.in.comcast.net/68.53.200.184)
I have been telling my husband what were doing, and when I showed him the list he was like 'don't you read enough of that already?'
Oh well, now I'll read more. And at least, with suggested stories, I know it won't be a waste of time.

Good idea -- Leatrix, 15:18:44 08/05/02 Mon (httpproxy.clear.net.nz/203.97.2.243)
I agree. Its just that for this month, I didn't want anyone who had taken the time to make a recommendation to feel left out.
Next month maybe we could set a limit at 5?

I agree or we could keep a running tab of stories that might get -- morgain *Leatrix, I need help also*, 19:11:21 08/05/02 Mon (B57-61.DAS.McGill.CA/198.168.182.63)
"short shrift" one month. Carrying over might be an ok way to deal with this.
Leatrix, I can't seem to get into the 100 Years of Solitude site. Nothing clicks on except the award sites and the songs. I actually have been trying to read this since I saw it at BAPS awhile ago, but it continues to elude me. Any hints for this stupid girl?

A Non-Recommended Recommended Fic -- JSlayerUK, 17:49:37 08/04/02 Sun (spider-loh-td044.proxy.aol.com/195.93.48.169)
By that I mean, it's a fanfic I'm recommending you to read, but not for the list, because it's not B/S. It's so good (and funny) I couldn't keep it to myself.
"Beneath Who? - A Season 7 Parody" [PG]
http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=891496
It's a spoiler based parody of Episode 2 of season 7. I had tears streaming down my face, and I just want everyone to share the love.

Back after battling an evil computer demon -- Stormy, 21:13:47 08/05/02 Mon (AC8BD487.ipt.aol.com/172.139.212.135)
Just wanted to let y'all know that I have returned, and to apologize for not having recommendations for this month. My computer apparently decided that I needed some time off of the net, so it self-destructed. :/
~Stormy, who is off to read the listed recommendations

Me Recs (and believe me I've been reading them all!!) -- treacle antlers, 15:26:08 08/08/02 Thu (host213-122-141-76.in-addr.btopenworld.com/213.122.141.76)
Hey honeys!! Just dropped in to BC&S and lookie lookie!! A whole new world of fun for us worshippers of the fic!!
I've been writing a lot of non-BtVS stuff recentely hence my lack of show and updates but I'll rec my new story 'Clearance' for those of you that haven't read it, it's now complete:
http://cgi.carnal-sins.net/bscentral/stories.php?caid=1&sid=65
It's a seven part story set in season 4 with a terribly smutty prologue.
There's also another ficlet called 'All That's Left To You', a Willow and Spike(B/S) shortie, on the same site.
As for other rec's here they be, my creme de la creme:
http://www.buggerthis.net/
For the 'Bittersweet' series by Herslef and 'Daemons Lumanati' by Kalima. All FRICKIN' FANTASTIC!!
'Base Elements' by Limber: http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=755839
Another cracking read with excellent Dawn & Spike interaction. Slow to start but it's worth it!!!
'Redeeming Spike's Ass' and the truly lovely 'Super Food World' by Valerie X: http://www.fanfiction.net/profile.php?userid=17610
S.F.W in particular is just breathtaking.
That's all for now but feeling warm and fuzzy in the bosom of my fellow ficcers!!

If this is wrong I'm sorry, but -- Kaylorin, 02:12:45 08/11/02 Sun (pcp632159pcs.newhvn01.in.comcast.net/68.53.200.184)
I'm just really proud to have been mentioned. I feel kind of siily, because I'm nearly in tears. I only wrote becauser I loved so many of the stories out there. I can't thank anyone enough fpr even sharing my story.
Sappy. I know, but you have to understand, my little sister it the writer. I just liked BtVS too much not to share an idea.
Again. Longer than I meant. Thanks.
