Gwenneveire looked out over the Blue Valleys, stretching farther than the eye could see to the east and the south, hemmed in by the two mountain ranges. And as she looked and saw creatures running upon the hills in the rain - little colorful horses spreading white wings for shelter, flocks of birds wheeling and going to hide in the long grass or in little groves of trees, swift cloven-hooved herbivores huddled in valleys...and cats, great cats with dark legs and tails dancing on the hilltops - as she looked and saw these things, the weight that had been so heavy on her heart since the awakening seemed to lift and dispel as though the steady drizzle was washing it away.
Gwenneveire smiled.
Sema touched her shoulder and he, too, was smiling. "Welcome home," he said. "And if you feel remorse for times past, now is not the time to dwell upon them. Warrior!" He turned to Gabriel. "We must descend to the blue hills. It is not safe, exposed as we are on the mountainside. Once we get there, we will find shelter and rest, but not here, not now. Narcissa, this land is yours - tell us what we might expect."
As they began the slow, careful, weary descent of the mountainside, Sema dropped back to walk beside Kira. "You are well, my friend?" Warm concern shone in his dark eyes.
