The black wolf suddenly glanced to her left. Across the river was not one but two of the strange creatures called Jellicles. One knelt at the rivers edge drinking from the cool water while the other stood further back and watched. Both wore looks of timid fright. And yet...

::Rio? Do you see what I see? What ARE those things? Are they demons?:: Came Gabriel's mind speach. The wolf could sense her lir's inbred fear at what he was looking at. No Cheysuli wanted to lose his balance. It was what made the shapechange so dangerous for the human half of a pair. If Gabriel ever lost his balance he would become a half thing. I thing not unlike what they were looking at.

And yet Rio herself did not fear these two young Jellicles. She sensed in some way that they were not the twisted demon things Cheysuli children were brought up fearing. Instead they seemed more human than some humans she had met. ::Easy dear Gabriel. Not everything is as it seems.::

::Easy??:: His mind speech roared. ::You wish me to take it EASY?:: His yellow eyes fairly glared at his animal half. ::Those things are dangerous!! They are creatures of a dark god!! They are twisted creations sent here to destroy us!!::

The black wolf chuckled through their shared link. ::Are you listening to yourself lir?:: She turned strangly human eyes up to him and grinned a wolfish grin. ::Twisted creations? Creatures of the dark lord? Gabriel, I have but two points to make. The first is... Humans think WE are the creation of the dark lord. Why do you damn what YOU do not understand?::

For a moment Gabriel looked less like a warrior and more like a young man still wat behind the ears. With a quiet sigh he asked. ::What is your second point?::

Rio blinked as she heard the call coming from Gwen. She glanced first to Gabriel and then to the Jellicles across the way. ::They're nothing but children. Perhaps half grown. We should go. Gwen is in need of us.::

Gabriel nodded and turned to walk away from the water and toward the city when weakness overcame him. Without warning the tall lanky warrior went to his knees. ::In a minute dearest liren. I am in need of a rest just yet.::

::Gwen... Gabriel is still very wek from the gun wound. I cannot leave him. There are Jellicles about.:: She cast a glance toward the now frozen Jellicles. She could see their eyes as they watched her and her downed man. Without thinking she growled. Gabriel would not like it if he woke up with those two too close.
