Narcissa and Mimiteh

There was a pause in the wake of Narcissa's words. She spoke with quiet conviction and everyone was riveted - including, the Nobel noticed suddenly, his young daughter. Mimiteh was staring at the newcomer with enormous eyes, and Weatu realized that this public discussion had to end.
He cleared his throat, delicately breaking the silence. "Narcissa bluesister, I am sure that you have traveled long. Come and share our kill."
Asred saw his son's pointed look and gently herded Mimi away as Weatu led Narcissa toward the center of the valley, where the remaining members of the LeJene tribe lay in several small groups, watching their Nobel but without the spirit to enquire. Weatu sighed. "Forgive me, bluesister, but I must be blunt - dark times leave little room for tact. At the moment there is nothing we can do about the Angels...that is for a larger gathering to decide, Paw much wiser than myself. There is else that I would learn more of. You spoke of three of your tribemates with a group of Cheysuli who are working against he who controls the wind demons."
They reached the remains of the morning's kill, two middle-sized deer, and Weatu sat back as Narcissa selected a hunk of meat. He was hesitant but she politely did not press the matter, letting him come to the words in his own time. He looked out over the remains of his tribe, not even two dozen of them now; the few kittens were curled close to their parents, the two who had been orphaned sitting listless beside Weatu's aging aunt. The two sentries signaled to each other from the hilltops but there was little more than habit in the gestures. Then Weatu saw his daughter, little Mimiteh with fur as blue as the sky dashing delighted circles around Asred. Her laughter rang like clear water in the valley, and hearing it Weatu felt a veil lift from his heart. For her sake, he knew what must be done.
"We are with you," he said at last, and met Narcissa's eyes. "For better or worse, the LeJene cannot lay down under this punishment. We will fight back - we will help you and your tribemates, and these Cheysuli, in any way we can."
