It Takes A Man (Chapter Five)

Previously in “It Takes a Man”…Blair brought the children home and Todd was getting falling down drunk at Rodi’s. He left Rodi’s and went to the docks, where he slipped and fell into the river.

Tonio Vega had been demoted to a beat cop, after a departmental investigation had uncovered that he had been showing certain Llanviewers preferential treatment. First there was the incident where he kept Rosie Delgado’s dealings with RJ to himself. Then he covered up for his brother after he started an unauthorized fake ID scam and when he stole Todd’s car on a drunken night. Tonio was walking along the docks at around 1:15am when he saw a sexy male figure (yes, El León swings both ways) lying face down in the river. His first thought was, wow, there is nothing sexier than a wet man in leather! Getting the freaky thoughts out of his head (both of them), beat cop Tonio jumped into the river and pulled out the now unconscious man.

He turned him over, primed to give CPR, when he realized that this sexy piece of scum was Todd Manning. Tonio started to think about all of the things that Todd had done to hurt his family, as well as those who he considered family, like Senorita Troll. If Todd had not parked his car outside of Cross Roads, Cris never would’ve been able to steal it and get into the accident that ultimately ended his finger painting career. He vowed that Manning would pay for Cris’ accident, but this was no time to exact revenge. Besides, looking so good, Tonio couldn’t let Manning die. For once in his miserable career, Tonio’s professionalism took over and he called 911 and then proceeded to give Todd CPR. A few minutes later, the ambulance arrived.

Blair was fast asleep at the mansion. She started to have a nightmare and all she kept hearing was “Senora Blair, el bebé no es muerto.” Since her conversation with Todd, Blair was able to decipher that Paloma was trying to tell her that her baby was not dead, all along. She woke up in a cold sweat yelling “HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME TODD?” Blair started to cry again, she didn’t know if she would ever be able to get past what Todd had done to her. As much as she loved that SOB, he had hurt her in the worst way possible and she couldn’t even imagine sharing her life with a person who would tell her that her child was dead, when he really wasn’t.

It was now 1:45am and Blair tried to go to sleep, but feared having the same nightmare. She just lay there and thought about how she and Todd would be able to get past this. Blair wondered if she would ever feel the need to make love to this man again. She sucked her teeth and rolled and eyes and said “As far as I’m concerned, the ONLY sex that Todd Manning will get from me in the foreseeable future is implied sex. He’ll just have to use his imagination or which ever one of his hands turned him on at the moment”

Just then, the telephone rang. Blair wondered who would be calling her this late. It was probably that jerk calling to beg her to let him come home. Well, she wasn’t having any of that. She decided to let the answering machine picked up. “Hello Mrs. Manning, this is Llanview hospital”…Blair picked up the phone. “This is Mrs. Manning, is something wrong, is it Todd, is he ok?” Blair’s heart was racing a mile a minute. As much anger as she had for Todd right now, she couldn’t stop the bad images of him dying from penetrating her mind and she wished that she hadn’t kicked him out.

She knew how destructive Todd could be when he was upset, why did she chase him away? The Nurse Vance finally said, “the EMT just called us, your husband will be arriving in a few minutes, apparently he fell into the river and developed hypothermia, he’s unconscious.” Blair dropped the phone, told Susan that she was leaving and summoned Gabby to drive her to the hospital.
