We made plans ages ago to go to Florida. We really wanted to take Gumdrop to DisneyWorld before she gets older and is too embarrassed to be seen with her parents, so we figured this would be a good year. Between the school schedule and the legislative schedule, the only time that really worked was the summer. (Everyone we talked to said, "Don't.Go.During.Spring.Break." We hate crowds more than we hate humidity, so we booked for August.)

The last leg of our trip was supposed to be Sanibel Island, but obviously, that's out. The hotel we booked there can't accommodate anyone until at least late September, they said. So, we changed our plans and will go to Siesta Key, just outside of Sarasota. As long as I get some beach time, I'm a happy (non)camper.

Tell J I'm with her! You and Mapguy can go camping; J and Gumdrop and I will find a nice hotel with a great spa and do the girl stuff.

Yes, Gumdrop is getting bigger every day. She's going into fourth grade, and it's hard for us to believe how much she's grown. She's still a lot of fun -- loves her music, the computer, and her preteen pop stars (Hilary Duff is a large presence in our house). She's been taking violin lessons with mixed results -- sometimes she's more into it that others -- but the long-range results are always so beneficial, we're having her stick with it for now.

Did you guys take any other vacation time this summer? Or just lots of lounging by the pool?
