In reply to: SAC Lover 's message, "Tolin to OCU" on 06:51:52 04/19/05 Tue

Can you imagine the discussion if OBU's coach jetted to OCU? For what it is worth, I am all for it!

1. He hasn't applied.
2. I think you're looking at Eck or Helfer at OCU.
3. I believe Doug is Methodist, not Wesleyan.
4. Doug's safe from the 'money woes' at OBU.
5. Keely.
6. He's signing some guys here that would make things tough for the next coach at OCU.

He will not be taking the job at OCU, but it has been verified that he met with Jim Abbott last week to discuss his interest in the job. Only those two know what was said but it brings some interest to the fact of WHY he would meet with them in the first place.

If he had no interest in the job, he would have cut off any communication with a phone call to Abbott prior to their meeting.

Ray, as well as others, you have to think about the tradition and the perception that OCU offers to any coach at the NAIA level. This is thought off as one of the top two NAIA jobs in the country. Any coach would tell you that Azusa Pacific and OCU are hands down one and two. OBU would definitely be one of the top 10 jobs out there though.

OCU is down to four coaches and look for them to name a coach by May 6th. They will have two sets of interviews starting today. Next week they will cut the list to two and then Abbott. Homsey and McDaniel will make the final choice.

The four coaches are Kevin Morrissey, Ray Harper, Steven Eck and Kenny Clark.

If JR Homsey is involved in any decision, it will be a clownish one.

I am sure, though, that he is... they are going to screw this one up royally.

Of course, that's what they have done since HackDaniel got there.

War OCU finishing in the second division next season.

I have no idea if they met. But I will stand by my remark that Tolin did not apply for the job. Read into that whatever you want. I agree OCU is one of the top spots in the NAIA. They are the biggest school in Oklahoma City, have a fantastic gym, and they pay well compared to their economic surroundings.

Pay is not that good.

The basketball coaches job is listed at Grade 13, which is less than $60,000 at the top of the scale. Win was below that.

The third women's assistant at OU makes more than that.

However, if a coach wants to work at it, he can probably get a good camp going with that facility. Win never tried.

I thought a Wesleyan was a follwer of John Wesley---a Methodist? Is that not correct.

I do not know where Ray got his information, but meeting with the OCU people can only mean one thing---and I do not view it as a consultant. I do think that Todd Thurman is the man, however.
