Subject: Prez Sykes

Dan Sykes is back in Pheonix Enterprises this time working creative for The MWI.

Dan Sykes worked creative for The Pheonix Promotion shortly after it opened. He can be credited for breaking guys like PhantomLord and the Extreme Stallions, the short lived Six Man Tag Team Title Division and being ont he ground floor of the Puppet Masters storyline. He was a massive on-air talent that always drew a solid rating, second only to The Pheonix Masters character. A lot of the stars he had pushed and a lot of his ideas began to melt down but Pheonix decided to try him out as an excecutive

Prez Sykes for those of you who remember was the man put in charge of Pheonix Promotion International, Pheonix's forst attempt at an overseas and developmental fed and was given complete creative control. The company failed, but he did discover new talent, especially a young british giant by the name of Glacier. But the company failed due to low ratings and what seemed to be personal problems as Sykes was often absent from the office and shows for PPI. He briefly came back for a time but was unsatisfied with his role in the company and he and Pheonix amicably parted ways.

The best thing about Sykes and Sykes' biggest problem has always been his ambition. He wants to run a succesful wrestling company, that's his long term goal and when you have someone that ambitious working for you he won't want to work for you for too long and that can be detrimental to a company's growth. Pheonix isn't looking for a partner and hasn't been in the past. So when you get in a situation where someone is amassing locker room support thinking he'll be a partner that can tear a company apart. I have always been one of his most outspoken critics on this issue. He’s also got Scott Hall syndrome where he’s here and going strong for a while and then gone for a while with no explanation and then back and ready to go again.

So why the hell is he back?

Well I can only infer four reasons why

One, Pheonix and Sykes are friends. They've been friends for a long time and Pheonix believes in Syke's potential to help the company. For all the things he's done wrong in the past he's done alot of things right. Pheonix believes in Sykes and is willing to gamble on him.

Two, Sykes will probably play a more limited role in the development and day to day runnings of the MWI. Pheonix will play to Sykes' strengths, finding talent, being a compelling performer and producing great TV. He'll have a lot of creative input but I suspect that Pheonix will still have the last word on any and every MWI Decision. There is also locker room leadership and voice in the form of Paul Maxx that will not let things get out of hand. There was no real leadership in Pheonix Promotion International so there was no real antidote to what Sykes was doing.

Three, he’s a massive on-air talent, he’s as magnetic as Bischoff and can draw heat like McMahon. I think that he will be used in this capacity, it’d be stupid for him not to. But I doubt he will be used as the life blood of The MWI as the focus will be more on wrestling. He’ll be used in such a way where he can be quickly written out of the storyline if he’s unable to stick around.

Four, Sykes is a man with promise. He always has been, I believe that if this guy is focused on his tasks he can really make his mark. If this time around he can live up to all that potential and deliver on all that promise the MWI will be FANTASTIC. The problem that Sykes has is his ambition but if he can keep that in check he’ll be fine.

Sykes’ return raises so many questions. Is he back for real? Or is he just here for a little bit? Will we see a guy who has the potential to become the next great creative mind? Or will we see the guy who ran PPI into the ground? Is he really here to help? Or is he here to recruit wrestlers and try a takeover? Only time will tell.

This is Sykes’ last chance here in my opinion. Sure Pheonix will always have a place for him here but I think this is the last chance he has to really be a force here and be taken seriously. There are very few wrestlers here that were around the last time he was here so that works in his favor but the guys who are here have risen to pretty influential positions and I’m sure they’ll have their eyes on him. All eyes are on Prez Sykes this time around. But I think something is different this time. I think he’s up for this. And I wish nothing but success for The MWI
