For her coloring, I would go with "bright pastels" like hot pink or bright peach or turquoise. Try to find a pageant dress shop or a bridal salon with glitz dresses, or check out eBay or online pageant consignment to find a gown. Easter dresses will not work. I hate to tell you, but you jumped headfirst into one of the highest glitz pageants in the USA, for a newbie. Also, what state are you in that you were given the state title for the fee, and asked to go to Nationals?

Forget the subject line. I am not too familiar with Sunshine, sorry. But as for the dress info, check up on that, because you may need it in the near future.

So it seems that the purchase of a glitz dress is unavoidable. I believe that Sunburst is the organization that will be holding the competition at our state fair in MO in August - would it be considered glitz at that level too?

What sort of prices am I looking at for a glitz dress?

My view is, the sooner you invest in one, the sooner you start getting the great dress scores. You can find them second hand for $200 and up, new and custom for $500 and up. Shop around, and ask pageant moms you meet where thay get theirs.

consider all levels of Sunburst as glitz. Better to be prepared.

Check out that site for inexpensive dresses custom made. You will then need to dye and stone it. I just found the site on another board, and thought you might want to chekc it out for your first glitz dress.

Not with our experience! I did Sunburst a decade ago and
won with mild glitz at state level. My daughter and son just did it this past weekend along with my cousin's
child. My kids were glitz dressed. The winners in all 3 age groups we competed in were in at best sunday dress. The one that won my daughter's group was in a plaid and velvet dress that I see kids wearing to school! We're STILL confused as to HOW the judges were judging. The kids won the extras but none placed higher than 2nd.

What determines how I should do my daugter's hair? It does not curl very well at all, but that is all I ever seem to see the girls wear...curls! Can I send you a pic. and tell me what you think?

You should look online for pageant hair-and-makeup people, and try to find examples of their work, and their prices. Most girls have professional h/m done for state and national pageants.
