I'm very sorry that I forgot to tell you this, but I was in Springfield the night of the 14th and all day yesterday... and on Thursday night in the hotel room we were in (I went with a friend) the news was talking about the big blackout and saying it reached as far as Ohio...did it affect you?? If it did, I really hope things turn out okay!

[> Claire, hi! No, the blackout did not affect my house but I DO have some stories about it inside... -- KatieS, 20:36:59 08/16/03 Sat

OK, first of all, Wednesday night we blacked out, here, at my house, but it was completely unrelated to the huge blackouts Thursday-Friday. It was like ten PM and we (me and my sister) were downstairs putting a puzzle together and all the sudden the power went out and it was pitch black. We both freaked out and grabbed each others hands, lol. Anyways. We went across the street to my friend Jenn's house for three hours while the power was out and we all just sat and talked by candle light, it was awesomeness. Then we went home and to bed. Well, Thursday my aunt and uncle from Cleveland came down to pick up my little brother, he was going to spend thursday night with them and we were coming up friday. Well they picked him up and left and then a while later my friend Jenn from across the street showed up on my doorstep and told me to turn on the news, so I did. They were saying huge blackouts through Ontario, New England and even into Cleveland. Where my brother was. My aunt called later at night and said yes, their power had been out since 4:30 PM. Wow. Well it came back on about 4:30 AM up there, so we went up anyways Friday. My aunt said that since the power had been out for twelve hours (that's nothing BTW - in Dublin once it was out for days) they had not been able to do hardly anything but it was okay because they have a pool and so some of my cousin's friends came over and him and Danny played in the pool with them. Heh, by the end of the night there was like no water in it because they splashed it out and couldn't run the pump... LOL. Well then they had to go to the grocery store to get food becasue they didn't want to open the refridgerator as not to let the cold air out, so my aunt went to the store, which of course did not have power. She still got some food to grill out and it was okay though, but, by morning the stores were cleaned out becasue of food spoiling or people buying it all.

This is getting hard to read so I switched paragraphs. Anyways. They said the power came back on at 4:30 AM and my aunt woke up because the TV and radio and all the lights and stuff came back on... LOL. Well still there was trouble, becasue since the blackouts were so huge, water treatement plants and such had backed up. They had no running water until noon or so. They are under a boil advisory until sunday which means if they are going to cook with water they have to boil it first to decontaminate it. We were not allowed to drink the water when we were up there. We went to the mall and they were not allowed to serve fountain drinks. Most places, businesses, restaraunts, etc, did not open until late in the day because of lack of running water and spoiled food. The county was considered a disaster area. Wow.
The amazing thing is, I live in Franklin county, which is right below Deleware county. And there were SOME blackouts in Deleware county, not as many as cleveland but some. None in ours.

There are alot of amazing stories - did you see the pictures from New York? All those poor people. and now the media is trying to blame my uncle's electric company tht he works for for the power outages, LOL!

Anyways, I'll see you later
Katie
