Australia?NFW.Down the gurgler b4 you blink.Please.Forget it.Great place to live, sure, but no market.Political factors, low immigration rates, low penetrable cardholder base-nothing to work from-forget it-no-one is gonna base a business model here-it's chicken stuff.Icing on the smart cake.Bake elsewhere... ----------------------------------------------------------- Where-only one place to be-USA-and the commercial twist is in this direction-just starting the push now-read this article re a smallish card issuer-they see the writing on the wall. When the small fish want to swim there it's time to take notice. ----------------------------------------------------------- The business case is too slow for the investor case-fine.Crazy stuff.Relax and enjoy the rewards of patience, unless you got betta places to stash the cash. ----------------------------------------------------------- Target rollout will change the landscape.Simply by being extraordinarily different. And the momentum which is not there now,well..it will be in six month's time.Small time to wait. And a Visa rewards platform like no other. What will the impact of that be when rolled out in Q2? ----------------------------------------------------------- If you resd what emanates daily ,much more often than in the past, from the world's press you will glean that it is only a function of time over staying power.Nothing more, nothing less. That's why PQ is hoarding...within limits(!). ----------------------------------------------------------- Using Chip Cards To Expand Globally ----------------------------------------------------------- Card Technology ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 19 2002 : JCB, the world’s fourth-largest card issuer, will pilot its J/Smart chip card in Hawaii, from January 2003, with First Hawaiian Bank, acting as the acquirer, and Vital, handling the card processing. Since Hawaii is a top destination for Japanese tourists, says Michael Cottrell, of Vital Processing, the location is seen as “a good launching point for chip card acceptance in the US”. If the pilot is successful, Cottrell believes “the [10 to 12] participating merchants will begin accepting all the chip card brands”, and “chip card processing [will] keep easing its way to the [US] mainland”. ----------------------------------------------------------- Although JCB’s J/Smart cards also carry loyalty applications, the pilot will only test the chip’s EMV-based payment application, according to Cottrell, who indicates about 700,000 of Vital’s merchants to accept JCB cards. JCB has also teamed with Singapore’s United Overseas Bank to ramp its local presence in the city-state, by issuing a co-branded, hybrid chip-and-mag-stripe card that supports both payment and loyalty functions. Cards used for purchases at the Bugis Junction shopping mall, are swiped for payments, while the chip supports the collection of loyalty points. ------------------------------------------------------------ These programs confirm JCB to be moving away from its traditional perception of a credit card for Japanese consumers, in an effort to gain a greater share of the global credit card market. Since JCB, like American Express, acts as a card issuer, acquirer and processor, payment innovations on its systems are potentially easier to implement and roll out. The chip in the Bugis Junction JCB Card, for example, stores data such as cardholder name, address, ID or passport number and loyalty details, and in time, like Hong Kong’s Octopus card, can extend to further functions. ----------------------------------------------------------- [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
