The Vibe is supposed to be a celebration of the life and music of Philip Parris Lynott. Sadly a large section of the audience at Vicar street showed a total lack of respect towards several performers on the night. There's a lot more to the man than 'The Boys Are Back In Town', unfortunately that's a fact that is lost on those who decided to hurl abuse at the likes of Hugh Buckley and Eamon Carr. They may not have played what the weekend party crowd wanted to hear but they paid tribute to Philip in their own way and surely that deserves more than the chorus of "feck off" that came from many of the party goers at Vicar Street.

This seems to be a pattern developing, same thing happened to Midge Ure last year, nobody bothered to listen during the acoustic numbers he did. Instead some of the most important songs Philip ever wrote were drowned out by the constant chatter of the party goers arranging the next weekends entertainment or discussing what happened in Coronation Street last night.

You can go and hear tribute bands all over the world playing at a Pub / Club near you any day of the week and they'll be happy to churn out the hits, time and time and time again, and everyone goes home happy.

The point is, the Vibe shouldn't be just another gig.

to be continued........(flame retardant siut at the ready)
