"Societal and cultural detrminants are particularily important in looking at what has been defined as sexually deviant behavior. In simple dictionary terms, to deviate is to stray, as from a standard or a topic, or in terms of an individual, a deviate is one who differs considerably from the average ordeparts from the norms of society. Deviation then in sociological terms is culturally and socially defined, and deviant sexual behavior is ANYTHING A SOCIETY SAYS IT IS.(caps mine)...... even in a society of saints where crimes, at least what we regard as crimes, would be unknown, faults appearing venial to us would create the same scandal as an ordinary offence does in our society....:
