I think pretensions are a waste of energy and effort and only make - somewhat - sense for those who do not know who they are, who are tying their personal value to an illusion of importance. Where do those people get their attitudes from? I don't know, something they have, or do, or know, makes them believe they are better then the rest of us. Or maybe they inherited it from their family. Or maybe we are just common people too ordinary to see their halo.

Your friend Steve sounds nice the way you describe him. Is he "just a friend" or your bf? Maybe he's not only a sweetie, but a courageous sweety?
