That works in normal politics. On Battle.net, things work differently. You see, for something like this to work, we need to have all the housemasters have to be in constant contact with one another.

Right now, Tseng (or as some of us now call him, Twopaws) is gone for a month. It goes without saying that he'd be a housemaster. What if he's got the deciding vote? I mean, it's extremely difficult for something like this to be efficient. Hell, even with 3 people we had trouble, and I saw Sword and Drake on-line all the time. You throw more people into the mix, things are just gonna get harder and harder to reach a concensus on.

The 3-person system worked pretty well. Housemasters have alot of work to do as it is without throwing the duties of council-ship on them as well.

Oh, and please don't think I'm disagreeing with you on every single issue. The fact of it is, we tried this very idea briefly. On paper, it's a flawless system, it works really really well. In practice, I spent most of the time going "Well, I got the vote from these two...uhg, where is HE? Uhg...ok, I sent an ICQ...he said to send an E-mail, sent the e-mail, no responce yet...." etc. etc.

Here's what I'm thinking, and this is open for debate (even though Diablo 2 wont be out for another month or five...)

3-person council, to make all the council type decisions, take the abuse when accused of being totalitairan Hitleristic communist leaders. (Yea, that actually happened...)

HallMaster - the guy who runs the hall (probably Tseng/Twopaws, since he's one more than any other two people combined)

Housemasters - Run the houses, only they can allow new REC's to become full members, blah blah blah...

Personally, the house system is a REALLY good way to run a clan, for several reasons. It kept us all playing games long after we normally would've been sick to death of Starcraft.

New recruits were always being talked to by high-ranking members. Housemasters flocked to REC's like...a bunch of people flocking...towards....something they all wanna have...

I always got a HUGE kick out of recruiting someone, and then watching as all the housemasters came into the recruitment channel to try and "sway" the new soul into thier house. The new members felt wanted in the clan. Most of them resented having the little "REC~" in front, but veteran clan members would talk to them...the REC's were noticeable. By the time they got to remove the REC~ tag, people knew who they were.

Think about it, if they instantly got to use the KTS tags, or the GoD tags, or the DoD tags, not many people would've taken as much notice to them when they joined. I think that the housemasters should know who it is thier letting into thier house, and not just just say "oh yea sure" whenever they are asked. In my mind, Housemasters are a far more important roll than Council Members, although everyone still wants to be on the council. ;-)

I think the system we've been developing for the last few months is pretty solid. It was NOT the reason that the old SH fell apart. SH fell apart for very different reasons, we shouldn't attribute it to the leadership structure. Recruiting is the root of the problem, that and we probably need a refined system for replacing council members.

The houses themselves, should have a leader, and a 2nd in command. After that, the ranking works however the leader wants it to work. They wanna do points, fine, they wanna do merit, that's fine too, length of service, okeydokey.

That also gives recruits a good incentive to join. I really dislike the merit-only based ranking systems most clans have. Leadership, and skill at a game are by no means connected, anybody who makes a good leader should have the chance to be a leader. On the same note, we should still acknowledge superior skill...we are, after all, a gaming clan. Or maybe I just say that 'cause I won the mega-tourney. ;-)

Actually, Punk really should've won that...his two wins over me were very clear-cut victories. The 3 times I beat him, he was doin' something weird, I dunno....

Anyway, I like you're idea, Marx...I really do. I wish we could implement something like that, but I just don't see how it's gonna work in practice. Anyway, this post is really long and I can't remember where I planned on going so I'm just gonna stop now.
