I think that you are right AnDray when you stated that the principal should have stated that she was joking in the e-mail. If you don't know that someone is joking, the message will be taken wrong and people will and do get offended. It's very important that we keep that in mind, especially in a business environment.

As for your joke story...I am guilty of passing along funnies to co-workers. But I do keep in mind the personality of the person I am forwarding information onto. If I even think for a slight bit that the person may not get the message that it's a joke and to blow it off, I don't send it. But then I should remember that that person could forward it onto someone else who would be offended and seek to have all parties involved (forwarder included) in disciplinary actions. That's definitely food for thought.

Then you mentioned the links that some individuals have at the end of their e-mails. I know that with Yahoo and Hotmail and other systems, the sender doesn't have a choice on omitting their little advertisement. I don't know if anything could be done about that. I guess it's a small price to pay for a free e-mail account.
