Date Posted: 19:42:49 11/07/02 Thu (since its a pain to have to beg people to do my kids lessons, i am creating a trainer for them and doing their lessons myself) *Mikki and Hannah have Missy and HC tacked up and waiting by the time their trainer, Tara arrives. Both their horses are perfectly groomed and their tack and boots are shining. Their new trainer, a pretty blonde in her early 20's arrives and steps out of her car. she is tall and thin, wearing tall boots, navy breeches and a black jacket. Saddle walks over and greets her "Hi, Tara, this is Hannah and this is Mikki. They will take the first lessons today." Tara smiles. "Hi Hannah, Hi Mikki" she greets them warmly. They show her to the riding ring and she watches them warm up and offers them advice to improve their warm-up. "Mikki, tighten your reins a little and make HC pay attention to you a little better. Hannah, push Missy into a more forward walk, your warm-up should be done at a good, steady working walk, right now Missy is collecting." Hannah and Mikki correct themselves and soon their horses are warmed up and ready for the lesson to begin. "Alright, lets see your trots" Tara calls. Mikki presses his heels lightly into HC's sides and waits for the horse to respond. after a moment he squeezes again. "Mikki, do not ask gently more than once, if HC does not instantly respond give him a tap with your whip or use your spurs. He should not ignore your aids. Slow to a walk and repeat that transition" Mikki gently brings HC into a walk, then gently touches his sides with his heels. When HC does not respond, he squeezes gently again, and this time also gives him a pop behind his leg with his whip. HC snorts unhappily, but moves into a forward, round trot. He moved steadily forward, perfectly on the bit. "See, isnt that nicer than having to fight with him the whole time?" Tara asks. Mikki nods, concentrating on keeping HC's rythem. "Ok Hannah, lets see your trot transition" Tara calls. Hannah instantly bumps Missy with her heels and Missy throws her head and moves into a fast trot. "There is no need to kick so hard, Hannah, walk and try again, using lighter aids. she appears to be a very sensitive horse" Tara tells Hannah. Hannah asks Missy to walk, gets her together again, then gently presses her legs into the mare's sides. Missy moves into a much nicer trot, remaining on the bit and round. Hannah posts along with the mare's trot easily. "Both of your positions are good and your posting looks great. Lets try a canter one at a time. Hannah, you will go first, Mikki, you keep HC trotting on a figure 8" Tara instructs. Hannah slides her outside leg back and Missy eagerly springs into a canter and gives a quick buck. Hannah taps her with her whip, then pushes her back onto the bit. "Good correction, now go across the short diagional from F to E and do a simple change at E" Tara instructs. Hannah easily guides the mare through the turn, then does a perfect simple change. "20 meter circle at C, then go into a working trot at M and walk at B" Tara tells her. Hannah completes the move easily, then Mikki takes his turn. he has a little trouble with the simple change, but otherwise does perfect. Tara coaches him a little, then she lets them cool out and goes to find Jessie and Maggie. "Well, shes a great trainer, but shes a bit or a drill sargent!" Hannah says.
