They mount their horses and walk them on the rail. Mikki and Hannah leave the ring, dismount and head back to the barns to untack while Jessie and Maggie's lesson begins. They warm up their horses and Tara works on their positions and making their aids more effective. "Jessie, sit up straight and let your legs touch Satina's sides. Your back is not straight and your legs are too far away from her sides to properly cue her." Tara calls. Jessie corrects her position and Tara focuses on Maggie. "Maggie, shorten your reins and bring Desert together. he's strung out and not carrying his own weight." Tara tells her. Maggie shortens her reins, softens her hands and pushes Desert onto the gentle contact. "Good! now he is round and on the bit" Tara calls. They walk around several times, correcting their positions and working on their horses balance and movement. "Alright, trot" Tara tells them. They both ask their horses to trot. "Jessie, do not put your hands forward when you ask Satina to trot, keep the same gentle contact and push her into the trot on the contact. Maggie, get Desert forward right away when you ask him to trot, if he gets lazy he will not stay on the bit. Forward all the time!" Tara instructs. Jessie and Maggie both walk and correct their transitions. Tara has them do many walk/trot/walk transitions, until their transitions are perfect. Next they canter 20 meter circles. "Maggie, you are dropping your outside rein, Leg yeild him into your outside contact, do not drop him" Tara tells her. Maggie pushes Desert into her outside rein and canters another circle. "Much better. now trot and change through the circle, then canter again" Maggie canters a perfect 20 meter circle in the other direction. "Beautiful!" Tara exclaims. Maggie smiles proudly and slows Desert to a trot, then a walk. then Jessie has her turn to do the excersise. at first, Satina is lazy and canters slowly. Jessie taps her sides with her spurs and Satina squeals irritatedly, but canters forward. "Good, now trot, do a change through the circle and canter again" Tara calls. Jessie also does the second circle perfectly. then they cool their horses out. "Good job today, girls. you are both good riders with good balance on your horses. You both have some minor things to work on, but we will fix those and you will both be wonderful riders. You may cool out your horses, i am going to go help Michelle and Alison get tacked up" Tara tells them. "Shes a great trainer!" Jessie exclaims as they walk their horses down the trail. "Yeah, just a little strict, and she never misses a thing!" Maggie responds. "Yeah, but look how nicely she had Desert and Satina moving" Jessie tells Maggie.
