Date Posted: 12:44:47 12/28/02 Sat *Travis feeds his mare and watches her eat. She flicks her ears at him nervously, then turns her hindquarters to him and continues to eat. Travis sighs and helps feed the rest of the horses. When Lily finishes eating, he enters the stall. Lily instantly spins, squeals and kicks out at him. Travis jumps out of the way of her hooves and then quickly grabs her halter and clips the lead to it. Then he leads her out of the stall and crossties her. He cleans her stall and puts fresh bedding in, then grooms her carefully, avioding her teeth and hooves. After he finishes grooming her, he saddles her and leads her to the indoor ring. He lounges her for 20 minutes, working on getting the pretty chestnut mare to relax. Then he takes her back to the barn, untacks her, grooms her and puts her winter blanket back on. Then he puts her back in her stall. He had already learned not to turn her out, it had taken him 6 hours to catch her last time he turned her out. He throws a few flakes of hay into her stall, then goes to ride Lady. The pretty buckskin thoroughbred mare walked up to him as soon as he went to the paddock. He brings her in, grooms her and tacks her up then leads her to the ring. After a careful warm-up and 20 minutes of dressage, he goes over to the indoor and dismounts, then leads her inside. He shuts the door and re-mounts, then canters a circle and heads up to the jump he had so much trouble with at his lesson. it was a liverpool, 3' high and pretty wide. Lady instantly stopped as soon as she saw the liverpool. Travis dismounts and lowers the jump to an 18" crossrail with the liverpool. Then he canters her up to the jump. Again she stops and refuses to walk forward. Travis dismounts and pulls the fake liverpool away from the crossrail and canters her up to it. She runs out at the last second. Travis turns in the opposite direction that she ran out, then approaches the little crossrail again. This time he hits her on the shoulder with his crop as she goes to duck out. Shocked, she flies over the jump, taking it as a 4' oxer. Travis grabs a handful of mane and canters the jump several more times, until she easily hops over it. Then he puts the liverpool back in front of it and takes the jump again. Lady jumps it like she never had a problem. Travis takes it several more times, then cools the mare out.
