Date Posted: 19:29:01 02/15/03 Sat *Kelsey goes out to the paddock and catches Tori. She brings the thoroughbred to the barn and tacks him up, then takes him to the indoor ring. She warms him up at the walk, trot and canter then schools him over 3'6 gymnastic fences for 25 minutes before taking her horse for a long trail ride. When she gets back, Saddle calls her over to the indoor. "Kelsey, today you're going to jump October for me" Saddle tells her. "Wow! I'll get him as soon as i'm done with Tori!" Kelsey exclaims. Saddle sets up a 5'6 jump course in the indoor while Kelsey untacks Tori, grooms him and blankets him then turns him out. Then she gets October out of the paddock and leads the chestnut warmblood in. She grooms him carefully then tacks him up and leads him to the indoor. "Ok, get on and warm him up. I want you to focus on sitting deep and tall and keeping your weight in your heels all the time" Saddle tells her. Kelsey walks the stallion around several times, getting used to his long strides. Then she squeezes her legs and asks him to trot. The big stallion instantly moves into the faster gait. "Wow, he's smooth" Kelsey calls, posting lightly to his big stride and softening her hands. "He looks great! Hes moving forward freely, accepting the bit and hes completely relaxed" Saddle calls. Kelsey guides him through some changes of direction, then pushes him off of her inside leg, asking for the canter. He instantly canters. Kelsey canters him a few times in both directions, then points him at a 3' fence. She takes him over a few times, getting used to his jump. Then Saddle tells her the course and she takes October through it. He clears ever fence with room to spare. "ok, we're going to pretend this is a real competition and i'm going to keep raising the fences until you hit one or you jump 6', whatever comes first" Saddle tells her. "Ok", Kelsey replies, trotting October in figure 8's to keep him moving. Saddle raises the jumps to 5'9 and Kelsey and October go clean again. Then she raises the fences to 6'. October was jumping his best and Kelsey rode the course flawlessly. They cleared all the 6' fences easily. "Thats perfect!" Saddle calls. "Thanks" Kelsey replies breathlessly. "Take him on a trail ride to cool him out" Saddle tells her. Kelsey takes him on a short trail ride, then brings him to the barn to untack and groom him.
