Subject: Can't wake them all

I agree that the movie could go anywhere. I am not saying absolutely that I am right, I was just responding to the statement that everyone agreed that Zion is not real.

The simple answer to why the online game will continue inside the matrix is that they cannot wake everyone up at once, or even at all. So the Matrix will keep running.

My bet is that Neo will either destroy Smith or Smith will have more transformations and change his ways. Whatever happens, humans and machines will come to an understanding and work together to improve their situation. Everything about this movies hints that man and machine depend on each other and I think that is the way that it will be left: A (mostly) peacefull coexistence between man and machine. There will still be factions, intrigue, and people and machines out to kill, destroy, or conquer, which leaves lots of room for online gaming.

A friend of mine suggested that when you sign up online, they could have you go through the Red Pill bit. If you take the red pill they do a search, find your body and all that, then you can jack in whenever you want to play. Then you develope a character based on whether you want to be 'good' and be a sort of human agent, helping defend the status quo, or become a rogue fighting the machines, humans or both.

As for Zion being fake - why would this simplify things? To me it only adds more complexity. The machines have to maintain all of these layers of illusion? I don't buy it. I think that everything is pretty much laid out as truth and that all we need to know is everyone's motivations for it to all fall into place. I don't think they will try for a Sixth Sense shocker. Besides, it wouldn't shock anyone if they did. Most people have already considered the fake Zion idea, right from the time they saw Neo stop the sentinels on screen, so it would be more of a let down than a surprise. Do you really think the W. brothers will settle for that? I think there will be a few really cool twists that bring it all together, but no big shock. The only shock will be how well it all hangs together, assuming that they can do it.
