Though I'm not totally disagreeing that Zion is real. Look at it this way. After seeing the movie 4 times I keep coming to the conclusion that Zion is still a part of the matrix. And as the saying goes the simplest explanation tends to be the right one. Do you really think that the directors would go into the complex explanation on how neo can do whatever in the real world or that the machines have had control all along. True the directors could just be leading us on and it maybe real, but look at the facts. Before the fight with the Smiths, Smith says appearances can be discieving and we never had control. The talk with the arcitect, he says that people accepted the program as long as people had a choice. He built it so people could choose. If people couldn't accept the first level of the matrix, they were lead to beleive that the second level (Zion) was real. Therefore no one reject the program they just chose different forms of the matrix. Third, throughout the movie everyone keeps hinting that no one has a choice everything happens for a reason. How could a ship mysteriously fall apart and kill everyone on board while they're hacking the power plant? No one had a choice everyone is still in the matrix. Fourth, there is an online matrix game coming out. It's been confirmed that it takes place where the matrix trilogy ends. And if the matrix game takes place IN the matrix, this leads to the conclusion that the matrix continues on. So I would guess even though I'm hoping it's not true, that no one ever gets freed of the matrix. The machines have always had control and the third movie will probably show that. I've noticed that the basic message of the movie(s) is that everything happens for a reason. We have no choice, what happens, happens.
As I said before I still have an open mind, but I just see it that they're not gonna go cofusing audiences by making some long drawn out reason why neo can take down machines with his "super human" powers in the real world. Keep it simple...
