Why is it absurd? I'd say alot more believable.

well you do if it directly relates to the understanding of the story. yeah sure, if there are only mild references then I agree, no problem.

You see, this is where we really differ. How can NEO die and come back unless its all under the umbrella of one matrix? The human batteries in your "real" world contain "real" humans, NEO having been one of them. If you want to restart NEO's life then what happens to his "real" body? I suppose you could say that the machines clone him and grow him again. But then what about all the other human batteries? You would have to kill them all off and grow new ones too.

So you see, I find this far more far fetched than having a single virtual reality world.
