Subject: Merrovingian, Persephone and the Oracle

More on the meaning of names in the Matrix:

The Merovingian is a program, as stated by the Oracle. He is a genrally evil and nasty guy. He is comparable to Hades for no other reason than the fact that Persephone is his wife.

Names can be taken literally in this movie. So far, the names of every major character in the Matrix movies explain exactly what that person is or does. Therefore, the Oracle is the word of God - literally! She dispenses God's prophecies, in this case she sets up the whole religion thing with the One, telling the story enough times so that everyone believes it. If she were an 'intuitive program' then she would have a different name. The fact that she is pretty sharp is just because she is advanced and has been around for a while. Perhaps the Architect had her created to dispense the prphecy and thought she should be somewhat modeled after the program that did think up the .1% solution - Persephone.

Persephone was stolen by Hades, in Greek mythology, and eventually came to love him. The evidence is mounting that Persephone was the intuitive program refered to by the Architect as the Mother of the Matrix. She makes shrewd guesses regarding the love interests of three different characters (Neo in Reloaded, and Ghost and Niobe in the game) and ends up kissing each of them (this is like Seraph fighting someone to truly know them) and making more accurate guesses. She must have fulfilled her purpose and possibly faced deletion, so the Merovingian stole her away and she is now an exile.

The Merovingian is the only one whose name I cannot see the meaning of. The Merovingians were a Frankish dynasty. They were powerfull and ruthless, so I guess that is him in a nutshell!
