The man Smith infected is named, Bane, which i have read means destroyer--or something to that nature.
I believe that Smith may not actually be in the real world. Smith simply has controlled Bane's mind. The body is still Bane's, but the mind is that of Smith. If you recall, Smith hates humans. It must be difficult for Smith to essentially live inside of a human. Maybe he cuts himself in his frustrations and in effect it reminds him that he can actually die in the real world (if you indeed believe that Zion is not part of any matrix). Thus, he must learn to adjust to the rules of the real world...being carefull not to die before his objective is complete. I think his objective is to kill Neo, which may be one of the final scenes in Revolutions. I also think that Trinity may be pregnant....maybe she is who Bane/Smith is after?????
