Nikki and Matthew, thanks for the posts. I might recommend one book on the subject that while not exclusive to the Middle Ages does a pretty good job of covering notable women AND the prevailing attitudes of the time. Coincidently one of the authors is another Miami University (Ohio) professor but I don't think that she was there when Dr. Wineland and I attended: A History of Their Own by Bonnie Anderson and Judith Zinsser (the Miami prof.)
