Subject: Maroon 5

I have been thinking about this for a while but just decided to post it today for some reason... I first thought about this when Phil came to present to our class and we were talking about musicians selling out and what not. Now I don't want to offend anyone who listens to Maroon 5, I enjoy their music myself, but for those of you who don't know they used to be called Kara's Flowers. I was telling a friend of mine this who likes Maroon 5 so we decided to listen to some of their music under the name of Kara's flowers and we did not like it at all. It sounded nothing like what Maroon 5 sounds like now and that shocked us very much. It got me to thinking about the class session that we had with Phil. It seems to me (and this is completely my speculation) that the band Kara's Flowers wasnt doing so well selling records so they decided to change the way their music sounded. I was also thinking that in order for them to change the way their music sounded they would have to change their name and create a whole new band with a whole new sound. Leads me to wonder if the band that many know as Maroon 5 now play the music that they play because it is their choice to play that music and they enjoy playing that music or was it to get more people to listen to them and buy their records so therefore were "forced" to make the decision to change to a style that more people would listen to. Was it Maroon 5's choice as a band to change to that music or was it some record executives choice?? What political effect does something like this have on the music industry?? Is Maroon 5 inherently evil for switching the style of music that they play?? I wonder what Phil would have to say about that...
