Is Vince the Chuck D. of counter-culture music? I don't know if you guys have seen the commercial with Chuck D. that comes on television, but Vince's discussion on the poverrty of imagination in our society reminded me of it. The commercial that Chuck D. is in relates to music and also the arts in public school systems, and how truly important these forms of expression and imagination are in our society.
The idea of an ingroup and outgroup in music was also interesting to me. Especially the ingroups in the counterculture of today and how they differ from that of the past. Vince said that we have splintered into microunits versus the 60's where everyone was togehter. As Vince stated the Gov't loves this. We are a part of the movement, not sperate from it. The counterculture and its people must realize this, and break these microunits to form as one in order to make a difference. The beliefs we have that differ from the rest's of society's, and the beliefs and values we want the world to know and understand, will not be stated or heard, unless we realize we have a say and that we are a part of society, and to acknowledge that coming together as part of it can and will make a difference.
