I agree that some things done while alone are not suitable for an audience but I'm not sure Goffman is saying that we act in a way that suggests a camera is watching us at all times. At least I interpreted his theory in a way that we are continuously pressured by media and such to conform to certain roles even when we are alone at home. A perfect example is advertisment on television. We are constantly pressured to look a certain way, behave in a certain way and to feel a certain way. We may play a role for ourselves, but in the end, it is still a role that we take part in. In my opinion, that's what Goffman is trying to convey.
