Subject: Roles When Alone

I was pondering the idea of time spent with yourself in connection to Goffman's ideas about roles. I find it hard to agree with his statements regarding the time humans spend alone. His theory is that we have a conception that somebody is watching us when we are alone, and this causes us to act out a role. I know that this idea does not apply to me because even if I do act out a "role" when I am alone it is most definately not one for an audience. If anything the role I act out when I am alone, is one for myself.
