The Saskatoon Silos were one of six GWHL clubs to use both of their picks in the GWHL Waiver Draft. Silos GM Ken McKenna is pleased with the players he acquired, and was especially pleased that he didn't have to expose any other players in the process.

The Silos used their first selection on center Eric Belanger, who was left unprotected by the Halifax Harpoons. Belanger is just entering his prime, so the club felt he would fit in well with the rebuilding mode they are currently in.

"We had Belanger ranked second among all the unprotected players, so we were extremely pleased that he was available at our pick," beamed the GM.

The second selection was used to select right wing Shean Donovan, a player who was not originally on the unprotected list, but became available when Charlottetown selected Andrew Brunette. As was the case with the first pick, the Silos didn't have to expose a player after making the selection.

"Donovan has great speed, and will provide our club with some depth on the right side," said McKenna. "We had a couple of guys we were looking at for this pick, but Donovan's availibility made us reconsider the pick."

The first selection overall in the draft was former Silos backup Dwayne Roloson, who was chosen by Toronto. The Silos elected not to match a pricey free agent offer made to Roloson by Yellowknife, but Toronto moved in to claim the veteran goaltender.
