With his club mired in a slump that threatens to drop the team out of playoff contention, Saskatoon Silos GM Ken McKenna elected to pull the trigger on deal with the Calgary Cougars.

Heading to Calgary is goaltender Tommy Salo. Salo has been Saskatoon's #1 goaltender the past couple of seasons, so his trade comes as a bit of a surprise.

Coming to Saskatoon is veteran right wing Andreas Dackell and left wing Ville Nieminen. Neither player will help the Silos offense, but both will be looked to for their defensive work and effort.

The Silos are expected to go with Curtis Joseph the rest of the season, with Arturs Irbe continuing as his backup. Joseph Has played well this season in limited action, while Salo has faltered a bit after a great start to the season.

To make room for the new players, the Silos released center Dan Bylsma from their farm team in Prince Albert.
