Montreal, PQ - The Marauders Hockey Club, as a whole, will not speak about it yet. But it is inching ever closer. This young team is on the verge of claiming a second straight playoff berth in the ultra-competetive Great White Hockey League.

Least likely to speak about it is GM Sean Gallagher, who is superstitious about such things. Until the coveted "X" appears next to his team's name in the standings, he won't even acknowledge that his second place team has any chance.

It was just two and a half seasons ago that Gallagher took the helm in Montreal. He promptly announced at his first press conference that the fans were in for some lean years as the Marauders attempted to get out from under some heavy contracts and poor depth.

Miraculously, the team's five year plan accelerated and the team went from a last place finish that year to a playoff berth the next. This would be the second straight year participating in the second season and the Marauders can only hope that they can build on last year's first round exit.

"This is a good team, but it's young" said Coach John Tortorella, "last year we were just happy to be there. Hopefully we learned a few things and can make an impact this year, if we get there."

Things won't be easy for the Marauders, who will certainly start on the road if they do make it. The five teams vying for the top four spots in the conference are all well-stocked and playing well. It'll take a herculean effort to knock off any opponent in the East, let alone two to get to the Finals.

But the Marauders don't seem to be thinking about Finals at this point. They are following fast in the footsteps of the GM and Coach in their only stated goal: get into the playoffs.

"We can start talking more specifically after we reach that goal. But that's probably going to come down to the wire, too," said locker room leader Keith Tkachuk, "once we get over that hill, we'll set our next goal."
