Subject: Montreal May Garner Few Awards

Montreal, PQ - While none of the players will admit that they care about such things, a few Marauders may find themselves invited to the annual GWHL Awards Night this year. The team strictly adheres to the 'team first' party line when it comes to individual achievements, but a few players might garner some consideration anyway.

More excited about their second straight playoff appearance, few players would publicly comment on the awards, but the team's public relations department has been working overtime.

Among the candidates are Evgeni Nabokov, who will win the award for most Three Star performances. Nabokov has also been nominated by his team for the Gordie Howe and Terry Sawchuk awards. While it is unlikely he'll be able to take home two prestigeous awards, he has undoubtedly been the main reason for Montreal's success.

Another Marauder with a shot at an award is Brad Richards, who not only lead his team in game-winners, goals and points, he also managed to complete the season without spending a single moment in the penalty box. Growing into a leadership role on a team rife with proven veteran leaders, it seems that Brad Richards is becoming the franchise player Montreal had hoped.

On the outside possibilities are Bryan McCabe, who lead his team with a plus-27 rating as a Langway nominee and Radim Vrbata who posted 16 goals, 26 points and a plus-14 in just 37 games. Vrbata likely won't get much consideration due to his shortened season.

The Marauders are in the playoffs, and that is their concern, but somewhere in a back office, one can assume that management sees several potential award winners as a definite step in the right direction.
