Halifax, NS - In an attempt to write GWHL history, the scrappy Montreal Marauders came close, but could not complete the feat. After dropping the first three games of the second round series to the Halifax Harpoon, the Marauders stormed back into the series by winning three straight games. In the end, Game Seven went to the Harpoons, who led 5-1 in the second period and staved off a late rally by the visitors.

And so, the Harpoons move on a Hoser Cup rematch of last year, while the dismayed Marauders head home to empty their lockers and begin to talk of next year.

"It's tough to come close and just fall short," said GM Sean Gallagher, "I wouldn't let myself believe it was happening, but I know every guy in that locker room believed it was possible. I know they're hurting."

Coach John Tortorella was terse, saying only, "I'm proud of this hockey team. They just didn't have enough tonight. Hopefully we learned something about the importance of winning games early in a series."

And so the curtain closes on yet another promising Marauders season. The management has already stated that the majority of the players will be back next year, so it's going to set the bar even higher for this team that was one game away from it's first ever Hoser Cup berth.
