(CALGARY)-If there was ever a demonstration of how much the Halifax Harpoons need Eric Lindros in the lineup, there are plenty of examples among recent games played against the Calgary Cougars. The Harpoons, if you'll remember played the last half of the Hoser Cup finals without their #1 center last year as he was serving a suspension for a hit in the back of Cougar blueliner Stephan Robidas. The result was three straight losses and another post season of disappointment.

This week it was no different. With Lindros nursing a broken jaw on the sidelines, the 'Poons dropped both ends of a home and home series versus last year's Hoser Cup Champions. In his absence, Halifax promoted aging warrior Mark Messier to the first line and double shifted Ron Francis on the bottom two lines. The result was two straight 3-1 defeats. One good thing that could be taken from this was the fact that franchise center in training Joe Thornton keep his 7 game point streak alive with an assist in each game. However, it is clear that if Halifax is going to challenge for the Hoser Cup they will have to have both 'The Big E' and 'Ordinary Joe' firing on all cylinders.

CATCH OF THE DAY: After the second game the two teams announced a trade. Going to Calgary is the #3 overall choice in the 2003 entry draft, goaltender Dan Blackburn. Coming to Halifax is minor league pivot Vaclav Prospal. Prospal, with 10 goals and 21 assists this year for the Cougars farm team in Red Deer is seen as a playmaker with tremendous upside. He was assigned to the Dartmouth Clippers upon being acquired.
